Tractor
sold ford 8n
Hello. I am a new member who had no choice. I bought a one acre lot in the mountains for peace and quiet as directed by my VA doctor. Then I bought another acre accross from me. (Stupid) cause I also have to take care of my girlfriends one acre in the city. As I was trying to build my cabin, I found myself surrounded by more elderly people....older than myself who needed someone to take over the road repairs, water repairs (We just got a new water tank, pumps, lines etc from a grant with the county) which by the way has to be paid for. They made me President and I am overloaded with calls to keep the roads clear and potholes filled. No one else will do it ... so here I am. Looking for something that will not kill me while working and maybe..just maybe, I will be able to enjoy my place. Sorry for the story.. but looking for a tractor or track hoe to make life up there more bearable.. SKIP

You didn't ask, but if you are looking for a tractor, you will soon face the question of transmission type. From your description of needs, I can totally recommend an HST. For me, it helps my knees and legs by significantly reducing shifting chores since it is variable speed. And, the precision one can achieve with HST is phenomenal...and you will be needing to get in and around tight spaces for all kinds of tasks. IMHO, HST is far superior to gear for these chores.

Sounds like you will be maintaining far more than the acres you own...thus, be sure and get sufficient size...pretty much everybody recommends a larger tractor than you THINK you need....many have purchased one only to sell it and get a larger/more powerful one after they fully appreciate what they need to do requires a bigger tractor to be safe.

Many have faced the tractor selection dilemma...spend time on TBN and you will get the opinions and experience of many without having to spend all that $$ and seat time:cool2:

Texasjohn.. Thanks you for the information. I am going to be new to all this maintenance that has not been done for a long time. Seems there are quite a few elderly ladies who have lived up there for years and no men (younger ones seem to be pretty lazy when work crews are scheduled--no shows) since their husbands who used to do everything have passed. Did not know what I was buying into.. Nice folks though... Skip and Thanks again
