Hello all! Been reading TBN for about 12 years now. I moved out in the "country" about 30 miles out of downtown Phoenix about 11 years ago. All my friends said, "Don't buy a big lawn mower, buy a small tractor." And I'm glad I did. Looking forward to all the information shared on this site.

Welcome to the forum from Alabama. How much land do you have? Which direction out of town? You have grass to mow??? ha ha, when I lived in Tucson, a lot of homes had green painted gravel unless they watered.

Hello mddorange! It's a little over an acre. When we moved in it was a dirt backyard. We have since put in a shop and swimming pool in the backyard along with 500' of retaining walls. Had lots of dirt and gravel work for the little Kubota. We are roughly 30 miles southeast of Phoenix. We had 5000 sq. ft. of grass in the front yard, and then planted 15,000 sq. ft. of grass in the backyard. The 54" mower deck definitely helps with mowing.

Did you irrigate, plant shade trees, pecan trees, flower garden, etc. I planted a shade tree in my back yard in Tucson and not knowing the growing power of all that sunlight, I fertilized it and watched it grow so fast that the bark couldn't keep up.

Yes, we have flood irrigation. Didn't plant any trees in backyard, leaves just go in the pool. Have four ash and two elm trees in front yard. The Mrs. plans to have a raised garden when she retires in a couple of years.

Where all the trees in the front already there? Do you have a fence around the property or just around the pool?

Trees were already here when we bought the house. All the properties in this neighborhood have 6' block walls around the back yards.
