Are you having problem with your 9N ford?

plows? 2-bottom 12 or 14's fit well or a single 16, if your N is in average condition.

yes I am Soundguy. The principal issue now is that it will not start - even with starting ethanol spray. I think a turn up is the cure though but have not yet discounted a no spark (wire plug or capacitor) issue yet. I first would like to really know what my tractor model is, where to find the model/ vin #, so I can order the parts.

I have a small oil leak at the pto.

The bush hog that came with the tractor is leaking gear oil. The leak really needs to be repaired. I assume its a bearing that is leaking.

I hope to get a picture of the tractor posted in the next day or two.

well, if it is a N ford, the sn is on the left side of the engine in a 1x4 boss just under the head, and back from the oil filter. that tells you what the engine was. all 1939-1952 9-2-8N engiens swap, so from there you look at the transmission and radius rods. Ibeam rods were used till 44. all 9n/2n used a 3spd tranny, 8n used a 4 spd.

the oil leak at the pto is a worn seal. if you have an early 9n, the assembly for the pto is different fromthe rest, and the best way to fix is a 100$ pto assembly change out.. mind you pay attention to pto shaft size and mower yoke.

mower leak could be bad seal or bad bearing allowing seal to go bad.

does she turn over good? if she turns over but won't start on starter fluid, then check spark.

if no spark, check that you have power to the top of the coil. if yes, put a test lamp inline with the coil and key on and rollengine over.. lamp should blink as points open and close.

post pics of your machine, fromt he side, and the engine sn and I can date it for you.

then we can get her starting.

also, is she still 6v with a generator or 12v with an alternator ?

if 12v, is it a 6v coil with 2 resistors or a 12v coil and only the original resistor?

I will look for the numbers. She, when starts, runs well. She just started not to start. Thanks for the dx checks and info about the PTO. She has a 4 speed trans and 12v alt.

when you say 4spd trans, do you mean 1-2-3-4+R or 1-2-3+R

a 9n/2n is 1-2-3+R an 8n is 1-2-3-4+R

If a 4spd, it is NOT a 9n or n9 as you have it listed.

Hello, you have an 8N late 1951-52 as it has a tach and side mount distributor. Edit; Done a little research. found out it was 1950 -52 with the tach and side mount dist.

Since your 8n has a hundred series bumper on it would you care to sell it or trade for original 8n bumper?
