You mean they aren't mutually exclusive?

Shy Non-Posters

Bird, I agree, I bet there are folks that won't post in fear of saying something foolish/wrong etc. Some of my posts I look at later and think (I SAID THAT?)

To any of you out there contemplating posting, do it. This board (knock on wood, no pun intended) has not been like some forums you will see with a bunch of backbiting, nose in the air ego maniacs. EVERYBODY has their pecularities and odd opinions, sure would be boring if we were all the same. I don't think you'll find yourself jumped on. Vigorous disagreements yes, but in a friendly way, I think. Post on!

Re: Shy Non-Posters

And why bring up a differing opinion if you're not going to do it vigorously? If it turns out that you're wrong (assuming it's one of the few issues that you can truly be 'right' or 'wrong' on), you can always switch viewpoints vigorously to make up for it... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And your point about the overall quality of the participants here is well taken. That's the only thing I would consider an overall loss, despite a greater number of posters. If the quality of the board goes down because of an increase of posters, it's still a net loss. But the point here is that no one needs to be a detriment to such discussion - it's poor attitude, not lack of knowledge, that causes the problems on other boards.

Re: Shy Non-Posters

Wow, it has taken me 20 minutes to read all the posts on this thead, but here I am. About non-posters - believe it or not, I was once one. I felt I had nothing to add, and would be made to feel like a fool if I asked a question which was "obvious" to real tractor people. One year ago nobody, NOBODY, knew less about tractors than I did. I had never even sat on one. Now, mostly through asking questions on this forum, I know enough to sometimes ask an intelligent question, and even sometimes offer an opinion that somebody gains from. My question on frozen loader controls brought to light a problem which seems to bother a lot of Kubota users, but none of us knew that until we started talking together. Somebody, I don't know who, asked a question about a sticking throttle on their B2400 which I had also noted on my 1700, and which allowed me to fix it. Until I read the post, I figured it would just "break in". I didn't even know I had float position on my loader until somebody posted that their float didn't work. Turns out neither did mine, but never having used a loader before, I didn't know it. ( I just figured when I pushed the joystick forward I was "floating", even though it acted just the same as when it was not in float position!) The list goes on and on. My point is, with rare exception tempers do not fly here, people do not make fun at other peoples expense here (with rare exception "another manure spreader"!), and when you ask or, even better, answer a question your impact exceeds by far what you can clearly observe.

<font color=blue>>I, unfortunately, agree 100%. It takes much longer to review new posts than it used to. Also,

Set your viewing to FLAT in the profile or click FLAT at the top of each page and it looks like the old forum messages.

I think what we all miss is the ability to go with a single click from the list of unread messages directly to the messages. This board requires you to go through a second menu, which is not as efficient as the old one in this one respect.

Bird,

Have you considered or are you aware that you can get a satellite download at up to 400KB? You would still need your landline but the incremental cost -vs- speed might at least be worth considering.

Just a thought, btw, I am not affiliated with Hughes nor DirectDuo in any way other than being an owner.

Regards,
Richard

Re: Shy Non-Posters

PaulB, when making references to the "another manure spreader" comment, you must include one of the following symbols so nobody gets torqued out of shape: /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif or /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks Richard, yes, I'm aware of that possibility, but not too anxious to buy more equipment and pay double for Internet service.
