New MX5400

Just a heads up.

I own a mx and, in my case, many of the zerks, grease fittings, were loose, one broke because of that. A couple of the stop nuts on the fel worked themselves loose and are gone. The oil/hydraulic/gas filters were almost impossible to get off, at 50 hours.

I had a similar experience with several loose grease fittings on the FEL. On my tractor it was the recessed grease fittings that were loose. The second fitting I went to grease came out when I pulled the grease gun off.

It is wise to check over a new tractor before use. I also found the grease in the gearbox on the rotary cutter low.

Thanks for the info I’m looking at the MX5400 or 6000 with a cab with pretty much same set up as yours except hydrostatic transmission. Looking at getting a landpride 3690 finish mower to go with it. It’s going to replace my L3940 HSTC it’s been a great tractor just want something a little larger

Wow. Give me some in action reports. That would get my twenty acres down to about...what...an hour?

Impressive.

I just made the exact same swap except I went with a geared MX5400. I kept having issues with the HST+ in the L3940. I miss the luxuries that the cab of the L3940 offers over the MX5400 but I love having more power. I had a Woods loader on the L3940 and it actually specs out a little better than the Kubota loader so I actually lost some in that regard.

Yep... I'm told at first gear, high range (about 4.5 mph) it will cut 6 to 7 acres per hour. I'm hoping to do all 30 acres in 4 hours, not 3 days.... I actually have to head up your way to get it; outside of Frederick, Md.

Well, when you pick it up, feel free to stop by and do a pasture test with it. I would not want you to drive all the way back home without seeing how it will cut. I am sure my wife will allow you to test it on her tractor.

I mow open areas with a Progressive TDR16 behind an L6060, 6mph on smooth ground leaves a nice cut and lots of reserve power, the Befco should be pretty similar depending on the width.

It really depends on the ground. If it’s smooth like a sod field, I think that 8 would be believable. If it’s a typical pasture, 4 might be pushing it.

I have been bushogging it in 1st gear, high range. That rides very comfortable and does a nice cut. So I figure the same with the Befco. 2nd gear might be a little too fast. Shoot.... at any speed it will be an improvement.

Stepp - that's a MIGHTY FINE looking new tractor. There are sure times when I wish my M6040 was shod with R-4 tires. Then here comes the winter snows followed by the spring mud and, once again, I'm glad I have R-1's.

I've spent way too much time looking at/drooling over a brand new bush hog type cutter. Finally, reality hit. I simply do not have that much to cut here on the 80. Plus the M6040 is open station and I would die from all the dust and ash kicked up.

Like the man said - "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning". There is NOTHING like the smell of a brand new tractor. Have fun Stepp ..............

That's a Befco. I have that same FM in a 20 foot. Mine is a Frontier 2120. I bought mine slightly used for less than half price quite a few years ago. Probably the best attachment I have ever owned. I really want the hydraulic kit that disengages the deck locks. Since I upgraded to a cab tractor that function is a challenge. I can't seem to find anyone around here that will or can get it for me.

With those finishing mowers, I need to do some calculations on - money vs. time.

I could expand my "lawn" to over 40 acres. LOL.

Beats getting hot, dusty and beat to all hades on the ZTR. That could be returned to just front yard duties. LOL.

I know what you mean... I was spending two days on the zero turn to just mow 15 acres, then the next week I'd do the other half... Told wifey no way was I spending the rest of my life on a mower.

Finally got the new MX delivered yesterday with the Land Pride stump grinder attached. Had to wait two weeks for the rear remotes and the 3rd function on the loader. She's a beauty!
