New New Holland Arrives! \"Questions!\"

Greetings TBN Forum,
First thank you all for the great reading. This is my first post, but I have found the TBN forum to be very informational. After much research I ordered and just recieved a New Holland TC35A with a 16LA loader w/quick attach, 758C backhoe and a 72" Land Pride BB. The machine is fantastic and the dealer has been wonderful. Here is my question: After getting the machine home I naturally give it a more deliberate secound look see and what do I find but scratches in the loader, backhoe and box blade. The backhoe actually has a few dents in your leg shielding! What would you all do? Bear in mind folks that we can talk about how these are just tools and they will get scratched, but this is my NEW very expensive toy. I want to put the scratches in myself. I have not talked with the dealer yet as I wanted to have a sence of what I think is accaptable before talking with them. Thoughts? If this was a new vehicle I would have declined delivery. I have no intentions of sending the tractor or implements back, but I am thinking that a starting point would be a credit that is equal to the cost to ship three new implements. What do you think? Sorry for the length, thanks in advance for your advice.
Tim

You should of called the dealer within hours of delivery, how long have you had it?

Re: New New Holland Arrives! \"Questions!\"

Scratches to the point of being used as a demo or scratches to the point of rough shipping or assembly? Many impliments get rough treatment in shipping and sitting in weather or being moved alot around a yard untill sold. Dents, thats another thing, it's acording to how serious they are and where. If anything looks like it was used then it should be sold as used or a demo. JMO

What would I do. Nothing, use it and enjoy it. The dings you mention are just a normal function of how they are shipped. I've had numerous tractors, and they've all had this type of scratches and dings. The first time you pull a rock onto your stabilizer you won't even be able to see the "factory" marks with the new ones you add. The only people who have unscratched machines are those who don't use them for their intended purpose. Enjoy /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You won't want to hear this, but it is fairly normal for an implement to have some minor marks on it from shipping. These things are banded down to a pallet and trucked across the USA in some cases. To achieve a new car type perfection in finish would require differerent shipping and handling methods. Less units would fit on a truck, costs would be higher, etc.

If he shipped you three new implements, they would likely have the same issues. The cost of freight might very well equal his entire profit on the implement, so that would not be reasonable as a "beauty allowance". Plus can't you see the guys in the service department snicker when you bring it in for service...."this is the guy that made a stink about a scratch on his backhoe bucket...." /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

A scratch across the hood would be unacceptable, but the ones you have described are normal. Ask the dealer for a couple of cans of touch up paint to match your tractor and implements. He'll provode these free. It's likely the cans will then set in your garage getting old as you will be having so much fun putting new work scratches on your tractor that you will forget about the ones there when delivered.

I see a lot of scratches in new JD equipment at the dealership. My last 2 out of 3 tractors both recieved new fenders one was dented and one was chipped and I thought I just got defective stuff but now after seeing all the new stuff at the dealership I know everbody's comes with some birth mark. The loaders being shipped in the open air on pallets are easily scratched plus during set up too. Now if it was many scratches like it had been used for moving dirt that would tick me off.

Andy,
How badly scratched or dinged do the NH's come? Minor or pretty bad? I only have experience with Deere units like combines and tractors.

Re: New New Holland Arrives! \"Questions!\"

My tractor came with a few scratches as well, well the implmements anyway. Not a big deal as I would expect that to some degree. When trying out a tractor at the dealer, I'm sure I've put a few scratches on loaders while digging and moving a load of dirt. Someone bought that tractor as new, and it is new. Don't worry about it unless they're really substantial. I don't expect to ever receive an implement that doesn't have some scratches and even some rust. It's the nature of the beast. John

Nick From my experience, New Holland tractor itself, virtually no marks except from chains, straps etc. holding it down during shipping. Loader, backhoe, implements, same as Dave said above from the way they are shipped. To tell you the truth, I never even look at buckets, implements, etc.. for scapes as I don't expect the paint to last more than a few minutes anyway. Mower Decks, tillers, etc. I expect them to at least look like they were painted once. Again scratches are normal. Big dents are not.

Re: New New Holland Arrives! \"Questions!\"

You know what always amazes me about these posts is that everybody wants to demo a tractor , but yet nobody seems to want a tractor that has been demoed.... I think some here are way too tough on dealers who are trying to provide good service on a low margin product.

Re: New New Holland Arrives! \"Questions!\"

Tim, I think you are being tempted to be far too critical about the appearance of your tractor. I'm reminded of a fellow who bought a 16' utility trailer and every time he used it, his wife would go out with a can of touchup paint and fix the scratches. Well, that lasted for about a month until she noticed all these little round spot areas were appearing in the black paint. It seems the paint she was using was so much better than the original paint that as the black faded, her paint looked like heck. She never bought the second can of paint and now their trailer looks like everyone else's.

When it was new, my loader bucket had a little rust in the bottom from having some water stand in it, and it had several paint blemishes. I didn't even blink. From your description, I think your tractor is in very good shape and you should enjoy it as you would any new tool. It's only natural to want to have it new and shiny, but you don't want it to be a "barn queen" either. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
