Today I installed my new tie rod end sets. First I altered them by installing grease fittings in both ends. The outer ends were simple to do. The inner took a bit of ingenuity. I drilled an angled 1/8" hole from the backside into the ball socket area. Next came a vertical hole to intersect the angled hole. The angled hole was blocked off by banging an oversized screw with Loctite on it. Lastly was grinding the head off the screw.

Good idea and great execution of the plan.

On mine, the outer rod ends have grease fittings but the inner do not. When it's due for replacement, I'll most likely steal your idea.

I recently bought two replacements for when mine finally bite the dust: boots are torn up. At 900 hrs I highly doubt that I'll be able to wear out the replacements (likely a fair amount of hours before I replace, yet) in my lifetime. I suspect that not tearing the boots would make these things last a lot longer: most of my really hard work in brush is over, probability of damaging boots is less. Cost was something like $300 for the pair.

Somebody made post a year ago or so about Kubota rubbers that might fit the Kioto inner tie rods. You may want to try and look it up. Or post the question. The person even listed the part number. You can keep these greased using a pin nozzle end for a grease gun if the rubber is torn. One of my next projects is to extend the tie rod shields and also protect the underside. Kioti failed horribly with these halfassed shields.

Jim, yeah, extending the shields is also on my list :) I recall trying to match up these boots and came up empty. Thanks for the "pointer" on the pin nozzle: I should at least do that!

There was definetly mention of those boots on here at one time. If I get a chance I will try and find it.
