Hello everyone look's like a good place to ask alot of question's about my latest purchase. I thought I was getting a decent deal on my 1600 until I hooked up my 4 ft' tiller to it then the e-bay curse set in. It barely had enough power to run the tiller in 1 st gear low range. It never overheated on me but the warmer the motor got the more power it lost to where I would have to put the clutch in and let the motor catch up. It was smoking out of the muffler and blowby out the breather, it behaved itself at the place where I bought it course the temp. gauge was still in the blue. My question is where do you buy good part's for this online ? It has about 3800 hr's on it if it hasn't been changed also are all glow plug's created equal? The local Ford dealership want's about $40.00 ea. i've seen some online for around $15.00 should I stay away from these? Appreciate any info you can give. Mark

3800 hrs is getting into 'well worn but still runs pretty good' for a SCUT.

There is another thread in buying or owning asking about hours.. ya might wanna read it. If this had been a utility or AG machine.. at 3800 hrs.. it'd still be kicking for another 2000+/- or so before you even thought about working on it. The CUT and scut.. drop off faster.

Have you serviced it? changed the oil and coolant? Old thin diesel saturated oil is gonna make it blowby and smoke more.. not to mention perform worse, and not lube as well.

I fthe oil hasn't been recently changed ( IE.. you -watched- the prev owner do it.. or it is still clear ( diesel oil only stays clear for a few hours unless it is a new engine.. ).. then it really needs a service. i service ALL new-to-me tractors when they get home. You'd be surprised the items that run better after a full servicing and some new maintenance items.

Ya got 18 db hp and 23 pto hp when new.. and lots o' hours.

1st and low was a good start.. how deep ya tillin?

Thank's for the reply Soundguy , I made a mistake on the hr's. there is 3324 on it. I changed oil & filter delo 400 15 40 oil that's what I run in my dump, Napa filter , even put in a qt. of Rislone just in case the ring's were sticking. Haven't changed the coolant yet but that's on the list. I didn't drain the fuel but I used a little CRC fuel conditioner and added a couple of gallon's of new diesel. I knew it needed glow plug's and I asked him if it might have been low on compression and he said he didn't think so. He thought some of the hard starting was due to pump & injector timing, it look's like the pump had been off and the injector's look like they've been replaced. I suppose I was tilling at a depth of 8 ", my garden is 20 ft. wide and it start's out running ok but at about 15 ft. mark it start's running out of power so I thought the compression might be alittle low and a rebuild was in order, thank's again Soundguy. Change fuel filter to see if you increase power. May want to bleed system after or you may HAVE to bleed it after filter change. Compression test may be a wise move also, to eliminate guessing.

Curious , if ti starts why do you need need new glow plugs. I would replace the air filter if yo haven't and probably drain diesel fuel and replace it all. Definately replace fuel filter.

If yo arestill low on power and compression checks out ok, then have the injectors and injector pump checked (both delivery and timing).

Hi Dave, Filter assembly new and I have bled the system several time's. I noticed that the injector's leak alittle bit at the base i'am going to buy some new washer's and see if that help's. As soon as I locate a compession tester i'll check the comp. Mark

Hi Andy, I can only start it if I give it a shot of starting fluid when cold, when it's warm it will start if you play with it. I've checked the voltage at the plug's and I get 12.54 volt's from what i've read that indicate's their dead. It has the old oil bath air cleaner on it and I cleaned it as clean as I could, as soon as I can find something to replace it with it's going, thanks Andy. Mark

WHEN YOU PULL INJECTORS TO REPLACE WASHERS (SEALS), HAVE THEM TESTED AT INJECTOR SHOP OR CNH DEALER

If it's adicted to ether.. that ain't a good sign.

I think I'd comp test it before i dropped another penny into it. And then go from there. i fthe comp is -near- the 'go' range.. then I'd check into getting the glow plugs replaced.. as it should start with them.. Next address the injectors and pump...
