New Owner RTV questions- winch, tires, etc.

First, thanks to all the previous posters and the admin of this board- it has the highest concentration of useful information on the RTV I found anywhere. I bought a Worksite model for use at our property that ranges from extremely steep hills to muddy lakefront bottoms. The surfaces in the hills are generally hardpacked. After getting the RTV stuck on its maiden voyage in 4wd (high centered it crawling over a dead tree- doh!) two things became clear: 1. the stock tires (HDWS) dig but don't bite in loose soil 2. the winch (2.5 ci) is a bit anemic. Got off after some gyrations but now have 2 questions for the group: 1. any recc's on all around ATV tires- one person I know recommended Maxxis Bighorns. 2. Will a bigger winch fit the mount on the RTV. Thanks

For the tires, yep, the consensus is the stock worksite tires don't like mud and loose surfaces much. It's hard to recommend a tire for your particular needs. Not knowing your location or exact driving terrain I can't help. If you drive on grass, you'll have to be careful of real aggressive tread. Several of us in the north have 2 sets of tires/rims. One for general summer use, the other set for extreme conditions and snow.
As for a winch, I've heard you can't fit anything larger than the 3000# Warn on Ramsey on the mount. Reading through the forums, it seems the preferred winch is the Ramsey with the wireless remote. I've heard of some making a mount that uses the receiver hitch as its mount and using a 5000# winch. Haven't heard if it works yet.

I invested in a set of Mud lites and now Il never got stuck in my RTV

flyingn- How do the Mud lites like hard packed trails? Our roads are a mixture of sand, fine soil, and gravel-they're as hard as concrete and dusty when dry, but can get rather sloppy especially in the bottoms when wet. I'm sure the mudlites would handle slop, but I'm concerned they might be squirrelly on hardpack
bczoon- primary use will be in the Tunica Hills region of SW Mississippi with the surfaces described above, with some use in alluvial fields along the Mississippi River (read as: mud for days). No snow or ice to contend with. Thanks.

For more traction, we recomend going to a 26" or 27" kevlar aggressive tire. With the 27" tire, we install a lift kit to allow for the taller rubber.

We sell an after market set of 4 - 27" kevlar tires, chrome wheels, studs and lugs for $750.00. We also use an after market lift kit for $250.00 Works really well.

On hard parked dirt they are a tiny bit squirlly.. Not too bad considering how aggressive they are. They transform the RTV in the muddy stuff tho.. You won't believe the difference.

I went with the 26" mudlites with NO clearence problems.. I do have the heavy duty front springs tho..

Hey, do you by chance have any info on that lift kit? I'm apparently too old to like any of this new fad of lowering vehicles. I think trucks look much better with a lift kit than slammed on the ground. I like to be able to just drive over the kids with their lowered trucks. All my trucks have been lifted; heck, I've even lifted a few women if they hold still long enough. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'd really like to see any info on a lift kit for the RTV. When the weather gets bad where I live, I will have to get a different tire than the standard tire that comes on the worksite model to be able to play in the snow. Putting a slightly taller tire on would only make sense. I just don't want to change the center of gravity too much to make it unstable. Thanks in advance for any info you can send!
