I bought my PJ tilt bed from Fayette in Athens a couple of years ago. I live on the NY/Canada border and it was worth the little over 3 hour ride. They saved me money on the purchase as well as no NY sales tax. I hauled it home with a temp PA tag and then registered it in Maine. $99 for 5 years instead of $75 or more per year in NY. I cut NY completely out of the equation.

The newer Jack's on semi trailers sound like that and are hard to turn compared to the older ones. The noise on them is the shaft between them in high range because it turns so fast it rattles. But they go up and down much faster in high than the older ones. I don't even notice it anymore on my new trailer at work.

These are just the standard single speed 10-12k jacks. I pulled the top cover off and the gear set was completely void of any grease. I would say that was the jack manufactures oversight, not PJ. They did (PJ) pump a small dab with the zerk but that didn't even reach the gears. I packed them and all is well.

I did measure the hoist mount. It is 1.5' ahead of center while the Lamar is only 6", so this lift should lift a heavy load. They both use the 6" cylinder. The hydraulic tank only has about 2" of fluid....Grrr and they didn't de-rate the GVW like I asked. In all fairness, the plant is running on a skeleton crew...but still.

Yes, 235/75x17.5 super singles, rated 6K each/10k Dexter torsion axles, 22k gvw. The tail gate is only 13 gauge, the Lamar is 11 gauge, I am butt hurt about that:D I do a lot of spreading so a lot of weight goes against it, I hope it is up to it.

I've got 4 trailers with Maine plates. And I don't live in Maine.
Next time you're out on an interstate try to note the number of semi trailers with Maine plates.

Good idea. From looking at those websites from the search seemed to conflict a bit on what allows out of state residents to register trailers in Maine. One site seemed to indicate a presumption that the trailers qualified because of use in interstate commerce and another that it was an accommodation for temporary seasonal residents who ‘might’ want to leave a trailer in Maine.

Anyone have insight on that?

Whether you get any grief varies from state to state or even LEO to LEO. I've heard that it's not legal in my state. I've heard that it's OK in my state. All I know is that a lot of locals have Maine plated trailers and I have yet to hear of anyone receiving a ticket.
One of my Maine plated trailers has run from the NY/Canada border to Florida and back several times with no issues.

My buddy has a trucking company and all his trailers are registered in Maine and have been for years....

In Arizona, a 10,001 gvw trailer tag is $800 but it is a one time thing, the tag is permanent. For some reason UPS has stalled with a parcel from the dealer so I had to get a 90 day permit so I can operate. This is what UPS is saying...weird.
