New Pressure Treated Wood?

Oh, I went back and reread your post. We call the base trim a skirt board here. You could isolate the metal siding from the trim as you call it, by putting some icegaurd or even 15# felt between the two. Personnaly I would use the felt, it's a whole lot less expensive, on 2nd thought, I'd use the icegaurd beacause any penetration by the fasteners would be sealed up and you would almost 100% sure of isolating the two.
Long winded, but did it help? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Menards has been advertising the AC2 (right?) lumber for at least a year now as a good thing. I've been buying my pt from a different box store....

For those who want to buy 2.5# retention lumber (CCA) call Culpepper Wood at 1-800-817-6215. Ask for Beth. Note that Cupepper is a distributor and does not sell retail. If you're in the East, they may be able to give you the name of a local lumberyard they supply. You'll have to go to the local outlet to order. In my case, the local guy didn't know the stuff was available and that was before EPA limiting the uses. Once he checked with Culpepper he was able to provide a quote.

i wonded about the safety of using the new treated wood around sheep, it contains a high amount of copper which is why it is so corrosive, and sheep are very sensitive of copper, any thoughts on this?

That's an interesting question that I'm sure the EPA never considered. I've never known sheep to crib like horses. Some plants have an afinity for metals. If enough copper leached into the soil and the right species of plant happened to grow there and concentrate the copper, theoretically you might have a problem if the sheep ate enough of the plant.

Practically I doubt you'd have that much copper leach out. I've never heard of livestock problems from treated wood even with the creosote used in the past and CCA. I think the corrosive qualities of the new stuff will be the issue. Sometime, somewhere, something will fail and the failure will be traced to improper fastners. That won't be known until many years into the future.

There are cases where building matrials were found to be a problem only after enough time had passed. Some time ago there was a plywood treated for fire resistance used for roof decking that had to be replaced. I think the stuff may have started delaminating.

I've been concerned with the issue of anchor bolt corrosion in my new barn, especially since we are in a hurricane zone. So I devised an approach to keep the standard steel (non-galvanized) anchor bolt from coming in contact with the pressure treated lumber used as a sill. The attached sketch shows the approach of drilling a wider hole than usual, and applying caulk between the PT wood and the steel bolt. Then apply a non-PT top sill above it, and bolt down. I'd be interested to hear any comments on this approach or ideas for a better one.
