New prospective buyer

Hello, I am new to the community and really need some help selecting a garden tractor for my acreage. I am not rich so I need something that can take a beating and give me good service. I have 5 acres with rough, flat and some slopes. I have been looking at many different brands and really could use some guidance. I know you get this all the time so I don't want to be a burden, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not picky about brand as long as it can hold up and give me years of good service. Welcome to TBN again from a relative newbie. It sound like to me that you will be looking for a used B series Kubota with some used attachments that will fit your initial plans. I say used because of you apparent money limits and I say "B" series Kubota because it sounds like your ground is rough such that a tractor that sits up higher may be needed. Apparently used Kubotas hold up well from reading here on TBN. It will probably take some time shopping and planning to find what you want that "fits".

Unfortunately these are way out of my price range. Some information that I left out is that only one acre of it is mowed on a regular basis, the other is pasture and is only mowed when the horses don't eat it down. Does that make a difference, and will good regular maint. on a smaller tractor make a difference?

On a low budget you might want to consider a good riding mower for the lawn and pull a Swisher brush hog mower which has a separate engine for the pasture cutting.

An example would be a Deere x320 or larger mower you can get now for the lawn work since grass is growing now. Then start looking for a good new or used pull type motorized cutter to deal with the pastures. I would recommend you get something with a good transmission rather than a cheaper mower that won't stand up to the job.

This would enable you to keep the grass mowed and give you time to search for the right used tractor. I would have the money saved up and be ready to buy when the right deal comes along. You have to be diligent in your search but there are lots of older tractors/brushhog rigs out there for affordable prices. Nothing wrong with an older simple tractor at the right price considering what the newer compact stuff is selling for.

Thanks Steve, I have looked around, but am not sure what I might get when I buy used. One guy today on craigs list had a kubota for 1200, but don't know if that is a good deal or not. Can someone look at this and let me know

I have Large Husqvarna lawn tractor for sale. It has 148hrs on it right now but I am still using it and will be until I sell it. I Bought it new in 2005 and it still looks that way. It has a 25 horse Kohler that runs perfect and dosen't use any oil. The battery and both belts were replaced last fall and it was serviced at 140hrs. I only use Husqvarna synthetic oil in it and it gets changed much earlier than the manual sugest. It is hydrostat with a 48inch deck. I am wanting to move to a zero turn so i decided to sell this one but its been a great mower it dosen't owe me a thing. If you are interested you can call Joe at 402-245-Zero Two One Five.

And sorry about the new thread, still new to this. I do not have any relationships with any dealers, but would like to really look around and when I do I want to go in knowing something. My problem is that I have looked at so many sights that many people have good luck with their mowers and some have REALLY bad luck. The ones with bad luck usually hollar alittle louder. So I am getting more confused. We have Kubota dealers, JD dealers and a few others around so I would like to shop wisely. Do I want a Hydrostatic trans, or automatic, what do I look for when doing mulching. Would just like to have a starting point...

Do you have a budget in mind? It helps to have some idea in order to make suggestions.

Obstacles and terrain, would help to have a good description of the property.
Where are you located, do you need to remove snow?
