Well after 3.5 years and 287 hours the PTO on my 2518 finally bit the dust. :(

The clutch locked up and the blades ran all the time. Talk about one expensive part!!!! Close to $275.

I am totally broke now but the Cub runs like new!

Wasn't that covered by the warranty? If not did you check on EBay? Sometimes you can find "deals" there.

Drifter,

The remaining warranty covers the drive shaft, frame and front axel. I had it fixed by my dealer and it runs like new.

They just don't make those clutches like the old Warner Electric one my Cub uses. 26 years old and it's been on two engines, still going strong. I think the idea was to make them a complete assembly so there would be no need to worry about the air gap setting so it would last longer, but turns out they don't last nearly as long. I just think nearly $300.00 for one of those clutches is ridiculous.

One thing I've always been able to do with my Cub is throttle it up part way, engage the PTO clutch, then increase the throttle to not put so much strain on the clutch. But I guess if you try that on a lot of these new tractors, the engine just wants to stall out from the super lean fuel settings. You can't win!
