Tractor
looking to buy
Hi all, new here, been looking at tractors for a few weeks. I'll be doing driveway work, land leveling for pole barns, landscape gravel work and other odd jobs. I'm a auto technician by trade and would like to be able to use the loader to move vehicle parts like engines, axles, beds, and cabs. I've been favoring the rk24, rural king is the closet store to my house. I like the extra lift capacity on the loader compared to the rk19. And just the extra power and features in general. Feels more like a tractor than a large mower, lol. A friend of mine is selling his bx25. I believe a 2011 model, 135hrs and just tuned up. It seems to be similarly speced to the rk19, except for the extra 4 horse power. However, ot has a backhoe as well, which I know will be very handy, and worth a pretty penny. I can pick it up for 12-12.5. I'm leaning to the kubota, as I've also heard they tend to be underrated on specs.

I'd appreciate any input on the mater.

I'm kinda down to -

Rk24, 1k lb lift, new, 8 year warranty. 14k after tax

Bx25, 650lb lift, 135hrs, like new, with backhoe, 12k

I would go for the BX, just because it has the backhoe. With hours that low, it has not even been barely broken in. Sounds like you can handle any maintenance or repair, so warranty may not make a difference for you. I have a personal obsession with NEVER owning a Kubota, so for me to say that.... well...

Do not get me wrong, the RK is a very capable machine. If you were going to get it with the BH, then that would be my choice.

You will hear on TBN, the never ending debate about renting a machine or getting a BH. Personally, I will never buy a SCUT or a compact tractor without one! The two that I have owned have both paid for themselves within a year or two doing the jobs they have done for me! Others say they would never get one because they can rent what they need, when they need it. I can go out and dig up something within a matter of minutes... going to rent a machine would take me half a day before I even get started....

You need to not only think about your immediate needs, but to think about future needs. Will you be mowing with it? Maintaining a gravel drive?
Another thing to think about is which one do you feel comfortable on? If you hate sitting on it, you will not want to operate it.... very important for you to be a “ fit “ on the tractor.

Anyway, good luck on your decision... it is a tough one! Both are great tractors.

If the BX is in good shape it would be a no brainer for me, especially if you have backhoe work planned. Those things are like the swiss army knife of the tractor world. The other benefit of a BX is amazing support in the aftermarket. They have the most accessories of any tractor I know of, any size.

Buy The Kubota....absolutely!

The BX25 is 2K less cost than the RK, and it is nearly new.

If you should decide to sell for an upgrade, the Kubota will be very easy to sell (especially with the BH).
Kubota, Deere, New Holland, Massey, are established industry brand names.

RK resale/trade in value is a total unknown, but likely it will not be particularly good.
RK tractors are new to the marketplace,......and like a few others who have come and gone, they might not be around for the life of their advertised 8 year warranty.

Not sure where you are in Northeast but I paid 10500 for a new TYM T254 from a dealer in Maine plus delivery with large R4 tires and a FEL with full warranty (Same tractor as the RK with a few less options, TYM makes the RK's and they make the Mahindra Max 25 although they use a Mitsubishi diesel in the Mahindra equivalent, Yanmar in the RK/TYM)

The OP does not show a Northeast location, or any location, in his profile.
You do not show a location in your profile either.
A profile location is often helps to make an informed response.

The BX would be my choice, but don't plan on using it to remove pickup beds, cabs or engines, it doesn't have the lift capacity or the reach to do that.

This is what I was thinking myself. Might be best to start considering a bigger machine that will be more adaptable to his needs.

There will probably be as many small, tight jobs to do where the smaller tractor is an advantage as large jobs beyond it's capability.

Actually most people with much work to do on their land will eventually end up with a couple of tractors: A smaller one in excellent condition for everyday chores, and a larger one that gets used much less - but is still necessary to have for some heavy work & lifting. The larger tractor can be older & used and still function fine. It's not the everyday user.

When a friend offers to sell you a tool he knows you need, that's worth a lot in my book.

Get the BX with the hoe, and use the extra money to put a thumb on the hoe.
