Just thinking that perhaps someone else has the same cutter and can take some comparison measurements for you? Or perhaps recently got the same cutter and having the same issue but hasn't investigated the cause to the extent that you have?

A good point.

If they tell me they found nothing wrong with this stump jumper I paid to send back to them, then I'll chime in. It WOULD be very useful to have a direct comparison from someone else with this cutter.

I'm still holding out, though, that they'll see what we see here, and agree its bad, and make it right.

I respect that you dont want to disclose who the MFG is, but regardless of the outcome, when the dust settles....I say let people know who it was.

Either A. Let people know how good of service you got and that they went above and beyond to make it right.....or B. Let people know who it is that wont stand behind their product and let you suffer with a defective and unusable product.

Something was pointed out to me today.

On Jan 8th, Despite the Mfg taking down my credit card information for the $100 stump jumper exchange, and being told that I would be credited back that amount if the jumper was found bad on there end, they never actually charged my card. I sent the jumper in on the 9th of Jan. So, up to this point, I only have my time in this cutter, no extra money than what I had spent on it at purchase.

Yep. There's a difference in ranting about a Mfg that you are displeased with and simply relating information that might help someone else.

And either way it's on the Mfg. Their choice.

Kudos on them.

Replacement stump jumper arrived a few days ago. During my absence, my lovely assistant has taken measurement of this one. It appears much better. When I get back, I'll go over it, and mount it up. I think its safe to assume all unusual vibrations will be sorted at this point.

In the mean time, I've got a few more pieces of rotating equipment to manage at work.

Conclusion:

I've arrived home, checked the jumper myself. less than 1/16th out from pin hole to pin hole. The mit indicated 0.040, MUCH better. Mounted up to the cutter and she's as smooth as a new cutter should be. So I can confidently say that a stump jumper like this will certainly cause undue vibration. I'm happy now. The Mfg of this cutter sorted out the issues, despite some disagreements, at no extra charge to me.

Compare this pic to the one in post #1.

Having gone through this, it is my opinion that, despite the arguments I had on the phone, a rotary cutter should not have a stump jumper that is 1/4" out, pin hold to pin hole. Even one for rough brush cutting. (the rest of the jumper plate really doesn't matter, its the blade bar end to end that is important.) I would say 1/16th is the maximum acceptable. I'm willing to wager the spec sheet tolerance for whoever makes this stump jumper, would indicate similar. If I were the Mower maker, I'd demand much better from the folks making this jumper/blade carrier for them.

A few years down the road, gearboxes, and the tractors running them, will be better for it.

just received 2 PMs from a couple folks. With respect to them, I'm still not interested in releasing the name of the manufacturer. The point of this thread was to determine whether or not a stump jumper like this was normal or could cause excessive vibration. This has now been determined. Though I'm certainly guilty of wandering through my frustrations.

In post #28 you clearly described why the manufacturer should be mentioned. Their standards and the standards of those reading this thread, including you are different. So wouldn't it be educational for those reading this to know the specific manufacturer that has slack standards?

It's your thread, your decision.

I guess this discussion has ended. Thanks for the updates!!!
