It's a tree, and we planted three of them. We placed 6' fencing around these to keep critters out. Anything above 6' is fair game for the deer & elk to prune.

Mine are typically the nasty inch long thorn covered shrubby kind, but I have some with 10" trunks and most of the thorns on those are up on the limbs...

I hate mine with a passion...

I have a fence up but they found a way in, this WAS an apple tree. I doubt it will come back but we'll see....

I was down with jury duty followed by the flu...

Had not been down to inspect the back 40 till today...

As far as I can tell, the buck has not eaten anything... he just rubs his head up against the trunk scraping all the branches right off... each tree has a pile of stripped branches at the base...

I putting up cages although it might be too little to late...
