Carey that seat (post #9, above) does look like it's back farther, but I can't see what you modified to accomplish that. More description?

Another :)D) diversion from a thread focus - but here's a repair (posted over on Welding Web) that I made to the OEM Yanmar seat on my second YM186D after I bought it. I liked that larger OEM seat so much that I welded up the stress cracks, added a removable cushion (from household furniture), and put the seat back in service. Going on two years, the repair has held up.

This deeper seat is more comfortable than the replacement seat on the first YM186D. In particular the greater front to back depth makes it a lot easier to get off the little tractor when I'm watering new trees, where I dismount at nearly every tree to repair gopher damage to that tree's watering basin.

If you look at Hoyes pic. Winston posted. The Narrow setup of the two. And then I believe I just moved back a set of holes. Your only be able to use One set because the Seat Mounting Brackets will cover up 2 of the 4. I haven't had any problems in doing that. However it did move so far back it seemed to lower the Backrest and had to lift it up using the PVC. Freeze Plugs. They work really well and cushion the ride. Lasted 8yrs. trouble free!!! And after looking at my pics in #9 I decided to move it back forward a little using the shaft the seat lifts with to the closer holes of the two.

do you Know how to weld? or someone who's willing to? Take a few measurements of the mount bracket of your tractor, (mainly the width) go to your local salvage yard and look through the ride mower seats, to find the best condition along with quality made, some are covered with heavy duty molded vinyl, some have high backs, I think I got mine from a Toro mower,
with a small amount of fabrication/welding I was able to mount the seat on my tractor, I actually like the way it sit a bit higher helping my legs to extend,
We have to admit our Yanmar's were designed for the short legged people of Asia, ;)
