NEW TC21D POWER STEERING PROB

hey all,
i bought a tc21d from a dealer with bush hog loader m146 with 26 hrs. for 12,500. some small problems here and there. i noticed the power steering doenst work well even even with bucket empty. the res. is full of fliud and i dont hear any sqeels. anyone had this ??

I did not have any problems with my 21D but I know last summer there was a thread of someone else having this trouble. Do a search for steering and see if you can find anything that way or maybe someone here remembers the solution.

Check your tire pressure? When mine is low, it bogs a little even without anything in the loader. Of course the loader itself adds about a 1000lbs to the tractor....

Had my TC21D for just over 2yrs now and the only time steering is stiff ,is if I try to turn while sitting still. FEL empty or not but especially with a full load. But any forward or reverse movement at all and she turns easy...This I'm told is comon. If it stiff while moving, yep you have a possible flow or pressure problem...

By the way when I first got mine I was with out the FHL and it turned easy sitting or moving. Then as some mentioned, I added near a K to front, when I put on the FEL and WA-LA stiff stearing, very stiff while not moving.... Hopefully this is what you are seeing... Good luck....

hey paul,
thats exactly what im havin. i hope it isnt common cause i love the machine other than that. i would think having its own seperate hydrualics for the steering, it would act better. the service is comin today to check it out. if it is normal, i dont know if i can live with it. i had a bx2200 a few yrs ago and it didnt do this, empty or full bucket. there are alot of times in tight situations where this would make an easy job become a nightmare. just the other day unloading an empty oil tank from a trailer, just some simple manuevering, no, had to move a van and drag the trailer out by hand. this cant be what they had in mind when they designed these tractors. manual steering works great when yer just startin to move also. im lost for words, or tears????

Just a thought, but do you have the RPM's up to at least 1500 or so when you're moving and trying to steer?

How heavy is the loader? The 7106 is about 600# empty. Do you have ballast on the rear of the tractor?

I have the same problem, usually with a full load on uneven ground. Steering just doesn't turn (like a relief valve is popping?)

It occurs less often if the rear is fully ballasted - rear tires loaded + heavy implement. I have turfs & R4s - the R4s are loaded, turfs aren't.

I should mention the all 4 R4 tires are filled and I usually have a mower on the back. tire pressure being low as mentioned can be a factor...

But yep it is even a bit stiff to turn the wheel with the empty FEL(compared to the turning without the FEL). But it will turn ok with a bit of effort... The stering is Hydrolic with its own pump but is in some way still connected if I rember correctly to the whole system. Its been a while since I looked at the book. Hopefully once they check the pressure levels and flow rate you'll know something.

let us know what they do / don't find out...

Hi Paul,

This is a problem that I have with my TC21d also. I have the rear tires filled with about 250 pounds. I still have a bit of problem turning the front wheels while I'm not moving. Move just a bit, and the wheels turn great. The FEL is a very heavy accessory, and adds too much to the front end weight for the wheels to turn properly. Adding a TPH weight could help some, but I'm living with my turning limitations.
