hey guys,
i spoke with the service manager this mornin. he said the mechanic agrees it isnt correct. empty bucket, correct pressure, unloaded r4's, rpms up to full throttle. still no power, it turns a little and then locks up. i also have a 60" rear blade on the back hanging out, good enuff ballast for a steering problem. ill letcha know what they find out later today. they were hookin up lines to test pressures. thats what new holland told them to do.

It may have been me you were thinking of - right after I bought my TC18 (last April), I had a problem with stiff turning, but only in one direction. Turns out the rod in the steering cylinder was bent. Since I'd only had it a day or so, the dealer assumed it had been bent when it was unloaded and replaced it under warranty. The front bumper on my tractor was bent when I first saw it at the dealership, and I assume it happened at the same time (it's still bent -- I don't use front weights, and I never cared enough to have it fixed).

We all know the stories about the cars that fall off the trailer, but I've had no other problems in 325 hours, so I don't worry about it.

Steelfan, Yeah me to... I asked my dealer about when I 1st got the FEL and he said it would be a bit stiff turning, while not rolling, with it on. especially since the fronts are filled.. But it gets the JOB DONE!!!! for my simple needs...

Hi Paul,

We are putting a pretty heavy FEL on the front of a less than 2000 pound tractor, so we should expect some problems with weight. Most of the FEL's weight is over the front of the tractor, and that compounds the problem. Offsetting that weight helps, but you still have a pile of front end weight with the engine, and FEL. I've learned to live with the turning problems. You will also notice more of a footprint with the FEL on. I try to mow without the extra weight of the FEL. Of course this is my opinion, and I'm not an expert. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey,
spoke with service manager yesterday. he said when he started it up yesterday mornin, the steering worked fine. uhhh, sounds to me like somethin was or is floatin around clogin something. they were gonna flush the system, and if it still seems okay, bring it home. i guess when they dissconnected lines to do the pressure check and reconnected them something unclogged. also asked if the steering cylinder was bent and he said no. any of yas with this problem might wanna look into this. i will let ya know the final outcome.
