I'm meeting with my NewHolland dealer later today to get his price on a trade of my TC40D (with Supersteer) and the New TC45DA. As I've posted before I am pricing the 45 without Supersteer. I like the look of the new DA series. I'm going with the 45 now as it will be available with the mid pto for a future mower or front mounted snow blower.

Anyone else (like Mr. Inman) ready to make a move on the new series?

Is this a test or something? You really have me confused because there is a new TC48DA and a TC55DA, but I have heard nothing about a TC45DA or putting a mid-mount PTO on it. If there is such an "animal" I am totally in the dark (wouldn't be the 1st time though). At any rate, I have no intention of ever needing a MMM for my tractor. I'm so happy with my tractor like it is that I can't imagine a larger tractor that causes me to give up my hydrostatic transmission. Both the 48 and 55 DA are non-hydro. When I bought my tractor, I went for the largest hydrostatic tractor that New Holland makes. Except for the welds on the pedal mechanism, I've been thrilled with the hydro and it functions exactly like I've always dreamed a tractor should. Did I mention I love hydros? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyhow, if you know something about the new tractors that I don't know, please help an old guy with a short attention span and tell me where I can find the info. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jim, The TC45DA is just the old TC45D with the new styling changes and NewHolland just added the "A" to differentiate between the old and new series.

I was certain that you had a TC45D (without Supersteer). THe TC45DA is the same tractor with the new changes. Jim, You will still have the hydrostatic transmission and all of the features you like with your current tractor.

Newholland is offering a mid pto option finally on this the largest of the Class III tractors. I doubt I will ever put a belly mower on this size of a tractor but up here in Minnesota (if were ever get another winter like we did when I was growing up) a front mounted snowblower could be a desirable option.

My reason for my original post is that my dealer has a lot of interest from customers anxiously waiting these new tractors. The Class II guys seem to be the most anxious as they want the new loader.

My wife thinks I am crazy to want to trade after only having my TC40D for 18 months. I was hoping that I could refer her to my post showing that the NewHolland guys want a new tractor and that is not just me.

Oh well, she doesn't understand what we tractor guys go through when a new tractor hits the showroom.

Well, Terry, you certainly "scooped" me with that revelation./forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I've read all the posts in the new compact tractors thread and went to the links, but have not noticed anything about the new TC45DA. I even checked J. Collins's post and link to Lansdowne-Moody and the new styling is not mentioned there or I missed it. Anyhow, my tractor will be paid-off in December and I may be looking for a small dozer or track-loader to use around my property to dig ponds and fill in gullys.

I don't know what you hope to gain with the new tractor, but I hope your dealer doesn't "beat you up" too bad on the price differential. You must have decided that the Supersteer wasn't that important for you, and certainly, the normal FWD front end has less complexity.

I wonder what are the major styling differences? Hood shape/lights? Rubber skirts on fenders? Dark paint on running gear? New rear warning/flasher lights? I need rear lights mounted in steel cages because mine have taken a beating from tree limbs. I also figure any lights you put on the hood will be of limited use with a loader attached. I'd love to see an option for putting lights on the inside of the ROPs, up high, and a side-to-side toolbox behind the seat or just above the gas tank. Those are options I'd consider spending money on. I could do it myself, but a NH option would ensure support and parts for many years.

Be sure and let us know what the "upgrade" will cost. ...and if you wife looks at you funny, just promise her you'll keep your new tractor much longer. ...at least two years! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I just checked the Lansdowne-Moody site again and looked at the Class II & III specs. Now I know what the differences are. One big plus is the removal of the vent on top of the hood. No longer will rain drench the battery if you leave the tractor sitting out. That should reduce some acid damage on previous models.

Jim, Have you been talkiing to my wife? She also doesn't see what I am going to gain with the new tractor.

You are right. My next tractor will be with the regular front wheel drive axle. So regardless of whether I go with the new series or the current series I was looking for a non-supersteer tractor.

My dealer will have a price for me later this afternoon and I hope I dont get beat up either. He said that NewHolland has a $600 incentive for the current series. Obviously, that will drop the value of my trade in by that much.

Your point about the effectiveness of the new lights is well taken. In reality there may not be much improvement over the current series with the loader attached.

I like the new look. But if I weren't looking for a non-supersteer tractor I would probably wait another year when NewHolland will probably be more in the mood to offer some sales incentives.

I will have to see what the trade price ends up being. Obviously I can live a long time with my TC40D. The tractor is in perfect condition and gets better treatment than my Silverado.

THere is always another factor to consider and that is the warranty one. My tractor will run out of warranty in April 2004. I normally don't like to run without a warranty and have resisted the extended warranty offers as I thought they were expensive. Of course trading every two years can be expensive as well.

Look at it this way Jim. If you trade you could get the new Joystick and save you the trouble of putting the newly designed one on your tractor.

I'm back from my friendly NewHolland dealer and I think he made me an offer I can't refuse. What do you think?

Trade:

2002 TC40D, SS, 290 hours, R4s, engine block heater, 17LA loader with quick tach option and heavy duty 6' bucket, two rear hydraulic remotes.

New:

TC45DA, Regular front wheel drive axle, R4s, engine block heater, 16LA loader with quick tach option and heavy duty 6' bucket, two rear hydraulic remotes.

Trade difference - $3,188

I'm giving back Supersteer but getting 5 more hp. The reason I didn't go with the 45 18 months ago was that lack of the mid pto option. I'm not getting the pto now but it is now available.

What do you think? My John Deere dealer wants $7500 to trade for a 4610 similarly equipped.

I still havn't resolved the issue of whether the regular front wheel drive axle will give me the turning radius I need. I know the JD 4610 will turn tight enough for me but $4,300 more is a lot. I could buy a nice weather enclosure for the TC with the savings.

My NewHolland dealer hasn't found a non SS tractor for me try yet. The Case IH dealer was going to let me try a DX40 on my property but he has lost some enthusiasm for the deal. I think it may be due to his time being spent trying to sell a $150,000 combine. I don't suppose I can blame him.

Terry, your tractor must be in pretty good shape for that much trade-in value, but your cost has been about $10.50 per hour for your $290 hours. If I was intent on trading, that would seem like a fair deal to me. It proves that your dealer thinks he can sell your TC40Dss quickly and make money on it. Of course, you have to look closely at that $3,188 the same as you would the extra money for the 4610. What could you buy for your current TC40Dss with the money?

After looking at all the tractors on the Lansdowne-Moody site, I have to say I think I like my tractor just as it is. I know we can all use more lights, but it seems like they took some slope off the hood and the lights and decal styles are a little gaudy for my taste. I also don't like lights mounted outside of the ROPs folding pivot. Even with the little metal guard above the light, I don't think they would last a week with me mowing around my scrub-oak woods.

The bottom line is you are buying this tractor and if you like it, that's what counts. As long as the performance is there, I'm sure you will be happy with the tractor. I can't imagine adding the additional challenge of trading the tractor in on a more expensive JD and then have to develop a new relationship with a dealer. I'd expect you will have a very warm welcome at your NH dealer every time you show up there. They'll probably see you as a short-term repeat customer, even if it isn't true this time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
