Jacob, No, I haven't traded yet. Perhaps you've read some of my previous posts regarding the pros and cons of the Supersteer front wheel drive axle.
As I've posted before I have mixed feeling about SuperSteer. I love it when I don't have the loader attached. But when I do have it attached I don't like it as well.
All of the non-Supersteer owners tell me they are satisfiied with NewHolland's regular front axle. I'm not sure. I drove a Case DX40 which is the same tractor as my TC40D. The DX does not have SuperSteer. But I was just at the dealership's lot and was unable to get a good feel as to whether the loss of turning radius will be a problem.
Before I make the decision I need to have a non-supersteer tractor with loader on property so I can test it around my trees. If I lose too much steering then I will be faced with a real problem.
I can keep the TC40D which has about 350 hours but the warranty is set to expire the first of May but I prefer to have a tractor in warranty. The other possibility is to go back to John Deere and buy the 4610 but cough up another $3200. The John Deere has a fairly tight turning radius. It does not however, have the nice feature of the Supersteer axle where the front wheel drive engages and disenages automatically.
I just put a Curtis Cab on the TC so the John Deere trade will probably be more difficult. In the past I've discovered the dealers don't put much trade in value to attachments and accessories like a cab. I'm just guessing but he will probably allow me about half of what I spent for the cab.
So I need to wait a bit longer. As soon as I resolve the Supersteer vs. the non-supersteer issue I will make my decision. I will let you know.
