JD 2440/JD 3020/JD 314/JD 345/JD 850/JD 2320
I grew up farming and have always been around john deeres. I just recently purchased my own home on 3 acres of land, 1/2 lawn, 1/2 woods. I have been thinking of purchasing a compact tractor to do the following-

move firewood, rocks, mulch, dirt, snow, grade, mow, etc.

My neighbor buys and sells kubotas as a hobby and always has 15 at a time. I was going to buy a B7100 with a new woods loader, and then started wanting a JD again. I have been looking at used ones but its hard to find them around my area, so then i was looking into a new JD but its around $15,000 but its 24hp and has a FEL.....

then my dad calls and tells me about Kioti Tractors. Personally i have never hear of them but have been doing some research over the last day. My dad now wants to go in half with me and buy it for me for christmas. His dealer has only one 1914 left. However, its in TN and Im in CT, so I would need to drive 1600 round trip to pick it up. I have never driven one but have driven a shuttle shift case before.... for the price it sounds like you cant beat these though.

Those with 1914s, how many hours do you have on them? how have they performed? any major problems to be aware of?

anys for any and all input, I need to make a decision soon before it is sold.

According to the kioti website, the 1914 is only 19hp and it weights much more at 2132lbs then other tractors its size.... hows the hp on this tractor? is it underpowered?

thanks all

I didn't look at the 1914 because it was too small for my use. Heck, the CK30 is way undersized for my 20ac of pasture, but i got the most i could afford. It is from my understanding a basic tractor that is very capable for it's size. I have been on TBN for a over year and haven't seen any post's ref anything major. For me(6'4 225), a 1914 would be a tight fit. I would recommend finding one at a dealer near you, or a TBN member close by that has one that you can actually drive. $10K is alot of money, so make sure the machine is right for you. How much snow removal? If it is alot, then you may need more pto hp for a blower.
There may be a dealer(closer too you) here that still has one that will chime in.
The sale price is hard to beat........especially if someone is throwing in 50%!

You might want to step up to a CK20. Newer design, more comfort, and available HST.

if you're in CT and looking for a 1914, contact Ed @ Ken's Tractor in Troy, NH. They're right on the MA border and not that far from CT (~ 1 hour from Worcestor, MA). I believe that they had 2 on the lot, but contact them to be sure.

I purchased a DK55 from them a few years ago; 700+ hrs, very happy with the tractor.

good luck!

The 1914 is an older design but a capable work horse. Based on what your needs are it would work just fine. Reliable, basic compact utility tractor at an unbeatable price. To move to a CK20 HST would cost you about $3000 extra I believe so if you are happy with no HST then the 1914 sounds like a great deal.

Get the CK, in the long run you will be much happier with it. If the CK is 3k more that really is only 1.5k more based on the fact that dad is paying for half. Don't sacrifice, this is long term, get what you want.

I live in Ct, And I own a 2003 LB 1914. I looked at the CK20 manual trans. but I like the LB 1914 setup better. You are welcome to stop by and try her out. I am very happy with the LB1914!

Purpony,

I've had a 1914 for a year now and only have about 50hrs on it. Primary reasons for buying are (1) snowblowing 2 180' driveways, 1 paved & 1 gravel using a 60" rear pto blower and (2) brushog approximately 5 to 6 acres using a 48" rotary cutter. For moving rocks and other items I've added a toothbar and grapple to the 54" bucket. Added weight of approx 150 lbs reduces my lifting capacity but they work like a champ.

If you intend to get a cab for winter weather protection you'll have to fabricate your own because there isn't one available. I made one using a sheet of plywood for the roof, conduit for the front roof support and drape a golf cart cover over that. Works for me.

You mentioned mowing. If you are meaning finish mowing the 1914 does not have a mid mount pto so you'll have to pull it.

Hope this helps.

Got one. Use it often for bush hogging and mowing and with a backhoe for all those other little things that constantly crop up and for moving and lifting with the loader. Good machine. Very strong for its size. And since it is an older design it is all metal, not plastic. Does every thing I ask of it.
