picked up my first Yanmar tractor. It is a 186D and it needs almost everything done to it, :). First thing I started to fix was the 4wd engaging lever, got the assembly off and freed up the lever. While it is off I am obviously gonna change fluid, does anyone know what it is suppose to use and the filter number

Looks like a good project. How many hours on it?

not sure of a filter number but its an american tractor Carquest or napa will list it in thier computer or you can go online for Wix and find thier filter number.
fluid needs to meet jd303 spec which pretty much any universal trator/hydraulic fluid will, which is what you want.

tractor shows 813 hrs, guessing 1813 hours atleast before tach cable broke, located some filters for transmission and engine, I see some guys are using dextron 3 so I should have some of that on the shelf some where

Here's the basic fluid & Specs.. With only 2.1 gal. Hyd. I believe the Pickup Screen or the Strainer needs to be checked and cleaned also. My ym2000 holds 4Gal.. When I was Serving it there wasn't any use trying to clean it. It was so bad I had to replace it.
Used Yanmar ym186

got the strainer cleaned, it actually didn't look too bad. going to top up the fluid and give it a try tomorrow to make sure everything works ok

yea you can use trans fluid. Its better for cold weather. quicker response and dont have a warm up time on it like hydraulic fluid.

Welcome!

For that hydraulic filter and other stuff that really has to match Yanmar spec, I order from Hoye.

I have a question - my YM186D shift lever is stiff. What did you have to do to free up the lever?

You are going to love that tractor. When I finally found one with loader and power steering I bought my second YM186D.

for my tractor I took the front half of the 4wd engagement housing off and cleaned the splined shaft and mine worked great after that. Fresh fluid change, engine oil change, set the valves and she works great now. Still have lots to do but now I can put it to work once the snow finally melts
