ym3110d
Hello,
I just purchased a used ym3110d. 80-82 not sure on year.
Stickers, books, and the stamped serial number all say 3110, but the casting number on tranny says ym3810.
Seems like a well built little tractor. I have never used a yanmar before.

According to the tale i am the 3rd owner and need to fix it.
This looked like a good site to ask questions and a good source of information.
I have been reading on here and have yet to see what i need.

For my tale, The tractor has an original 168 hours on it. Yes original, maybe.

The first owner bought it new in California from homestead tractor. Have the Japanese parts book with the logo on it but only proof for origin.
Also have an i&t shop service manual.

The story i was given was the original owner rarely used it and moved to Arizona.

Battery went flat and it sat for years. Then he put in a battery and it would not start due to bad fuel.
He got it fixed and lightly used it.

It sat some more years.
He decided to fire it again but decided to change the oil.
Drained it and forgot to add fresh oil or left the plug loose and it drained out.
It sat for a few months.
He then fired it up and in a few minutes it started knocking.
Checked the oil saw it was empty and filled it up.
Started it up and it was already dead.
He sells it to a scrapper.

I bought it from the scrapper who tells the tale.
Tractor has little or no wear on it other then sun fading everywhere.
Original tires, very dry rotted.

Pulled the pan.
No 1 rod is spun.
The other rods have very light scaling from no oil.
All the other bearings look like new. Even the rods other then the light damage.
Definitely low hour engine.

The engine book i have says it has a 3t84-d engine, but the engine plate says 3t84t-h serial 3t84-489367

So do to this info i am unsure if this is the original engine as the tale says or a rebuilt tractor and pawned off as original.
Either way it is in good shape for its age.

Thinking of trying a redneck polish and shim with a new bearing before splitting it open. I have done this a few times on old cars and had very good luck.
Just such a bummer for everything else in this motor looks like new. Hate to do a full tear down but probably the only option. 2 Deep scratches in the crank and in order to clean them up it will be out of spec. Really shallow for max spec 16-20 according to the shop manual and i have yet to find more then one size over on bearings. .25mm

Now for the questions.
I have nothing that shows what any weights of oil it takes. I want to do a full service.
1. Can anyone point me to a full list of fluids and weights for everything? Neither book i have says this or if it does it is in Japanese and i do not see it. 15-40 and 90wt ??????
2a. Any pdf operators manuals out there? Does the original show service instructions? Saw them for 40$ but all i need is the service info not useless Japanese operating safety info.
2b. What English book do i need for this?
3. the 3t84t-h what all engines cross reference for parts? Would a crank for a 3t84 be the same or even a 3tn84? These seem to be everywhere my unit not listed. I can not find any info on this model t-h. Just d
4. Book only lists .01 / .25mm over bearings. Anyone over turn the cranks and use a different bearing from something else or anything yanmar over .25? Welding my only option?
5. Anyone have a good used crank for sale? New? Hoye only site i found that lists it, but out of stock. One on ebay for 1200$ OWWWWWWWWW

Thanks
Phil

Welcome to the forum. :welcome: The T in your engine number stands for turbocharged. Sounds like you have a 3810 with the turbocharger taken off. Any event, I would imagine parts would mostly be the same for both engines.

I seriously doubt the 168 hours but really doesn't make any difference. Someone at some time has made changes to the tractor. Have you used a micrometer to check the crank journal to see if it is possibly in specs? I don't understand the max spec 16-20??

Lube specs Fluid & Oil Types

Good luck with it, I'm betting you will come out with a good tractor.

Might find this interesting on the crankshaft. Crankshaft | CH10676 | CH20055 | 721250-21700 | John Deere | Yanmar | 950 | 1050 | YM330 | YM336 | YM2620 | YM2820 | YM3000 | YM3110 | YM3220 | YM3810 | YM4220

Thank you for the info and quick response and the knowledge base link.

I was thinking that it might be a 3810 as well, but the stamped serial clearly states 3110d and it is on the same case as the forged number.
Is the only major difference a turbo between the 2 models?
Did yanmar build all the 3t84 series to accept a turbo or does it have different pistons or other internal differences?

My parts book lists the 3110d and the service manual covers the 135 155 195 240 330 and says 3t84-d and i am worried that it does not cover this engine even though all the diagrams and parts look right.
A lot of engines are drastically different for turbo charging.

I should have been more precise on the wear limit.
The book says crankpin journal diameter
desired 2.1240-2.1246
wear limit 2.1224
So .0016 - .0022 material loss.
This would suggest a .5 mm or .0020 bearing should be available, but the book says only .25 .0010 are max. odd.

Big thank you on the crank link. Right there a large cross reference for parts!!!

New question.
Found an in frame overhaul kit on ebay.
New Replacement Yanmar 3T84H 3T84HTLE Engine Overhaul Rebuild Kit Excavator | eBay

Emailed the seller and asked if the kit was compatible. Seller said i need to tell him witch of 3 pistons i have from a picture he sent me but did not answer the question of if it was compatible. Worried that this if turbo engine this kit will be all wrong.
So ill see if i can clean it up first before pulling the head to see.
Anyone have a 3110d that has had the head off? One set of pistons are cast flat tops. Other 2 are forged and have a chamber.
Would it be a good idea to drop in flats to up the compression since no turbo? Would just look this up myself but i have no info on the t-h motor.

Thanks Again!

Edit Just answered some of it myself.

Probably wouldn't need pistons. Hoyes shows same ring set and cylinder liner for either engine. They do show a piston for the 3110 but not the 3810 so I would assume the pistons are different. I would think turbo charge is just upping the compression ratio by different piston design. Maybe I missed it but have not read where you have looked at your pistons to know just what is in there?

You have the same I&T manual that I have. The 330 is the geared version of the 336, both run the same engine and I think specs would be same as yours but sure don't know it for fact. Checking what you have against the manual should reveal conclusively.

I can't see the scratches on your crank so sure can't pass judgment. Without removing the scratches is your crank round and within the 1.6 -2.2 thousands wear limit?

I wouldn't be too concerned about sctatches, (extra oil grooves), on the crank as long as the wear limits are in spec.
BTW, "The first owner bought it new in California from homestead tractor.", if you believe this, I have a slightly used bridge you might be interested in. You might want to research "gray market tractors".

Hoye list the same piston for the 3110 and the 3810. EP1252....He also list the same piston (different pt #) for the JD950 and the 1050...The hours you list on that tractor aren't original. Not even close !

I think we have seen this scenario before on someone elses 3110 thinking it was a 3810 but it actually was a 3110.

Maybe so, but that second T in the engine model number sure indicates turbocharged.
