Hello!

New to the Mahindra Forum but I've been on the Yanmar forum a bit. Just late last night my new tractor was delivered! Not sure on the year but it's a 6500 4wd w/ ML265 Loader. I bought it at an online auction and then had it shipped here - it was generally as described but they had to short the starter to get it on the trailer and then the same to unload it. At first I figured switch or solenoid but then when I was putting it to bed last night I looked down and saw this unhooked connection and am wondering if this it supposed to be plugged into some safety sensor? Any ideas? I'll also have a lot more questions but I'll start simple for now!

I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen...here's one from the auction and then the connection in question, sorry for the angle but it's down by the brake pedals.

Maybe someone with a 6500 will chime in but that’s worth a look. It sounds like something simple and hopefully it’s just a safety switch or plug in. Good luck

Just a WAG.
I would think you have a safety interlock issue.

Generally speaking, The power from the key switch has to go through all the safety switches before it get to the starter solenoid to engage the starter motor.
Jumping the starter motor bypasses the safety circuit, lets you know the issue is in the safety circuit.
Trouble shooting the circuit can be hard without a schematic, especially when many of the switches are hard to get to.
You should have one on the pto, seat, neutral, and on the brake.
You may be able to ohm the switches and find a bad switch. If the switches check out good then you will have to check the wires.

Thanks guys, I looked a little more tonight but just briefly and I can't really see anything hanging loose that just needs connected - it doesn't seem like it could be that far away so I'll have to start back tracing. Anyone happen to have a schematic?

On my 5530 which is some what similar to what you have there are safety switches on the PTO, Gear selector, High/Low selector and SyncroShuttle. I dont know if you have the SyncroShuttle on the 6500 though but those are the spots that can keep my 5530 from starting

Good Luck.

Thanks it does have the shuttle. Sounds like I just need to start tracing back - I was hoping I would just see something unhooked but it doesn't look like it's that easy so one of them probably went out and someone just took it out entirely.

So I don't have to keep shorting the starter, would it work to ground a pin in that connector? Would it hurt anything to just try grounding each pin or is it the hot that makes it work?

Not sure if it uses hot or gnd but I would guess if its a 2 wire loom running to the safety switch and one is hot it uses hot if it has no hot running w/ it then I would be sure and check any other safety switches to see if it is the same. Give me some time to dig out my owners manual and I'll see if it has the wire schematic.

Well not what I would have expected but the PTO Safety sw is on the negative side connected to the starter relay with a brown-black wire and the Safety Neutral sw is connected on the Positive side with a Black-White wire the other side of the Neutral Safety sw is connected to the Ignition sw with a Black-Yellow and the other side of the PTO Safety is from a Black wire to ground somewhere.

But remember this is for a 5530 so wire colors may be different but hopefully not.

Good luck.

Did a little more tracing tonight and the wire goes back underneath on the right side under the brake pedals and then up under the seat and connects in w/ another loom. But I did find this connector under the seat as well. Anyway they're supposed to be joined, and what is it? Closest to the PTO controls I guess? Anyone w/ a 00 series to see what they might be and where they're supposed to go?
