Well not what I would have expected but the PTO Safety sw is on the negative side connected to the starter relay with a brown-black wire and the Safety Neutral sw is connected on the Positive side with a Black-White wire the other side of the Neutral Safety sw is connected to the Ignition sw with a Black-Yellow and the other side of the PTO Safety is from a Black wire to ground somewhere.

But remember this is for a 5530 so wire colors may be different but hopefully not.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'll peek in the loom and see what color the wires are.

Just because they are there does not mean they are suppose to go to something.
They make wiring harnesses for different models and even different brands.

I had a 5500 4WD that the Shuttle Shift had to be in neutral to crank

Thanks, I did double check just to make sure but it still doesn't crank even in neutral. I did order a manual for it so hopefully I can get this figured out.

Have you gone to the solenoid on the starter to see if you are missing pos or neg string when you attempt to crank it?

I haven't put a test light on it when I turn the key, I'll try that. How would I check for ground? Would it always have power or only when the ignition switch is engaged?

Thanks it does have the shuttle. Sounds like I just need to start tracing back - I was hoping I would just see something unhooked but it doesn't look like it's that easy so one of them probably went out and someone just took it out entirely.

So I don't have to keep shorting the starter, would it work to ground a pin in that connector? Would it hurt anything to just try grounding each pin or is it the hot that makes it work?

I haven't read it here, but I assume that you've check the clutch switch? Many tractors (and trucks and autos) have clutch interlock switches; you must depress the clutch to crank the engine. If that switch is bad or maladjusted, you cannot crank the engine, regardless of the status of the other interlocks. (That is the one and only interlock on my 2540 Shuttle; I often start it while standing beside it by depressing the clutch with my hand. (I "double-neutral" the thing before hopping off, always!)

You nailed it!

I was talking to my father-in-law who has a 4540 and he mentioned that sometimes he has to wiggle the pto lever just right before it will crank. I had tried that before w/ no success but I went out tonight and took off the wires for the pto switch and cleaned them up a little bit and went to crank it, no joy but then I jiggled the handle just a bit and eureka! Thanks for all the help guys!
