That stinks that its a 3.55, the 4.10 sure would be nice.
Agreed. The nice thing, though, is Dodge V10 is supposed to make 400 lb-ft from 1000 RPM up. I can't seem to find a chart of the GM 5.3 for my year, but it doesn't have any balls until you get it around 3000 RPM.

I looked into the gear change a bit more and it seems like changing from 3.55 to 4.10 might be more involved than I hoped, but I think I will have twice as much torque at cruising speed anyway, so hopefully I will not want to do the axle swap.

Also if I decide I don't like it, I think I will be able to sell it for more than what I will have into it, even after fixing it up. I am doing some work for my mechanic this weekend so at most I might have to pay for some fuel injectors and brake parts, I shouldn't be out anything for labor. :)

I think it will do all you need it to do regardless of the ratio. That V10 was pretty strong if i remember correctly.

I think you're right..My 6.2 only has 3:42's although it does have a 6 speed...It pulls like nobody's business...Torque and HP does level the playing field a bit.

What a nice engine the 6.2 is. I have the 5.3 in my 1500 with the 6 spd and 3.42s. Performs well, pretty quick. I can only imagine the 6.2 with about 100 hp and 70 ft/lb more.

I got to drive an '02 Viper a month ago and torque wasn't an issue... Even with a 1st gear that's good for 60mph:confused2:

That truck is a beast! The only thing on the road you won't be able to pass is a fuel stop! What kind of mileage can he expect 8-10? I'd still take that truck over a new epa choked down diesel any day!

I finally bought myself a "new" work truck. I decided I wasn't going to find what I really wanted within my immediate budget, so I just got a 97 Dodge 2500 V10 2WD regular cab for $2450. In that year the 2500 was basically the 1-ton SRW so the tow rating is something silly, diamondpilot says somewhere around 13K depending on the gears. It needs a TBC and maybe a tougher hitch receiver since the label is long gone from the factory one.

It doesn't like to idle until you stomp on the gas once, and it misses a bit, so I am guessing the fuel injectors need to be cleaned or replaced. Feels like one brake caliper sticks a little also. Drives straight and shifts well though, so I think a little investment in maintenance will fix it right up. I dropped it off at my friend's shop and am hoping to start using it in a couple weeks.

Back tire wear is an issue even with the locker, if you know what I mean.:D

I've had three 5.3's and those are a fantastic drivetrain and I loved them...Just wated the 6.2 for some odd reason. No regrets...

I have a 2000 dodge v10 in the 3500. Just last weekend i went and picked up an 11,000 pound t250 bobcat. On the way hope i was running 70mph with traffic and was making 15mpg from the onboard computer. I do know i made 180miles of trips that day, used just over 1/4 tank of gas.

I have 4.10 gears in my truck and I wish 3.55 in mine. Unless you tow heavy all the time, you don't need 4.10 gears.
