HRC - Very nice find ....congrats!

All - It was mentioned here and in other threads that auto is not desirable....why? In general, are the automatics in medium duty trucks not up to the task for the long term?

Too bad it's an automatic.

Manuals are more fun! However, keep an eye on the fluid level in the clutch resevoir. Actally, make sure you don't accidently knock it off (speaking from experience). If you let it get empty, you will have to replace the whole kit rather than just refill it. And, if you let it get too low, transmission damage could result. It is nothing major to worry about, but do be aware.

Man, I would love to find one like that with 4x4 and a auto. I have looked but like you said its a tough find.

Many of the boats I pull are way too much, like 10K too much, for my F-350. It does it without complaints but does take its toll. Boat ramps, heavy boats, and a manual just do not match so I need a auto.

I just prefer the manual.

As for the clutch, yep. The kit is $154.00 at CarQuest. Or maybe that was the brake booster, or was it the master cylinder? I can't remember. I've had to do just a bit of work on mine. Some of these trucks were also bad about the clutch fork bending, Ford released a service bulletin and a new style fork for them.

Crossroads ford (commercial) in cary nc has a 4x4, crew cab, 12' dump, 7.3L with under 100k on it, IIRC, they were asking like 18k... May or may not be on the website yet, a salesman called me a couple days ago when they got it.

The one at Crossroads is listed on their website as an automatic transmission with about 96,000 miles.
