Did the tasks i needed to do before pulling the loader off and checking out the clutch adjustment, and/or splitting the whole thing to do a clutch replacement.

Surprised at how little this machine can lift with the loader though :( i got some pallet forks for it and it would not even lift a small pallet with two boulders on it. I was barely able to lift each boulder individually, and while i dont know the exact weight, i know two strong men can pick up these boulders.

On the other hand, it handled 600 pounds of concrete admirably, so maybe im vastly underestimating the weight of the boulders.

I gotta get my front tires replaced asap though, when you put weight on the loader they go visibly flat. I have new tires already, just gotta get em mounted. Also probably should fluid fill the rears, even with the brush hog on the back im getting rear end lift where my back tires come off the ground entirely.

Also, gotta know my limits with this machine. Thats the most important thing.

The other thing with the pallet forks you have is how far forward they sit. If you can remove the bucket and mount them back further they will work better. I did this with my DF254 and I can lift a fair bit.

any opinion on 3 point hitch forks? I can swing up and pick up a 3 point hitch pallet for set for 100 bucks locally.

Loading the tires definitely won't hurt but a counterweight would be better because of the geometry involved, behind the rear wheels....Mike

I had to make up an adapter to mount them on the loader frame using the quick attach system that DF uses.
I have never tried them on the rear, should work good there especially if you have a hydraulic top link to tilt them.

Main problem with these forks is that the fork spacing is fixed making them hard to use for some pallets. A good back rest added would improve safety at the expense of visibility and slightly less load capacity due to the added weight.

I do not use these forks every day but they are sure handy when you need them.

Thanks, Cleat

I have my tires loaded but also try to have some implement on the rear just to help the poor front axle.

Reviving this old thread. Been using the tractor to get what i need done before winter, and its behaving decently. Still have clutch issues, but i've noticed something odd. Looking for opinions before i split this thing and replace the clutch pack.

I have clutch engagement problems constantly, tractor wont even move most the time (PTO clutch works 100% of the time), when releasing the pedal. However..... if i release the pedal (no movement) and tap the brake ever so lightly (its not locked on), i immediately go into gear and seemingly get full power. I have traction to the point where my wheels lose grip on the soil, and plenty of ground speed when i want it.

What could cause me to have no clutch engagement, until i very very lightly tap the brake. i dont even push it down, maybe 1/4 inch pressure, then the clutch works great until i clutch in and out again, then have to tap the brake.

If I had to guess I would say the pedal is hanging on something, tapping the brake rattles it loose. I would suspect the clutch pedal pivot point. It might be useful to have a helper to watch the clutch pedal while you tap the brake.

The clutch adjusting linkage can bend in use and this will cause clutch travel problems. I had exactly that and when I got under the tractor to look at what might be the problem, I noticed this linkage rod was bent. Straightened it and readjusted at the clevis and no more problems (about four years ago). I am now again finding the clutch travel getting smaller and I suspect the same problem. My tractor is due for some maintenance work in the next couple of weeks so I will check it then.
