Hello been lurking here for about a year . My Pop bought a yanmar scut with a backhoe about a year ago and i got to see what a small scut could do on his 1/2 acre . talk about a force multiplier for him , makes his son feel good that i know my pop isnt wearing himself out with a shovel doing all his landscaping and clearing projects!
To make a long story a bit shorterthe wife and i went from having no yard at all in a 2 bed apartment with a garage to owning acreage< all mowable > in milton fl . Friend of mine was in the process of moving and asked if he could "store" his kubota l3240dt with 5ft bushhog at our place since his relatives that live in the area near us are in a gated community and frown at 20ft trailers parked in their driveways so we promptly said " sure we will use the dogmess out of your tractor while we store it! "
My friend use to chop firewood for pocket money 'logsplitter that runs off pto is here at my property' and he has found a place where he is going to clear and store firewood about 15 miles from us . He worked a deal with the property owner that he will clear out the firewood and trees and he gets to keep the wood and store / sell it from where it is at . Bummer for me cause Im loosing the use of a very nice tractor .
I go to my wife and explain the situation , see im an offshore diver , when im gone she has to mow the property . when i said we need to get a lawn mower she basically laughed at me . She said " Go find us something like Chaw (friend that lent the l3240) has." Oh man its on the hunt begins.
First off when i first moved in Pop was down here with me and i had to make the homefront ready for upper mangement to be able to come live in the country. House needed some love so I made sure it would be sound for my beloved . When taking a break one day i called a nameless kubota dealer south of I10 in pensacola that was having a kubota day event. His prices were stiff and he wanted to charge me an arm and a leg to deliver a new tractor to my place an hour away in the sticks . Months later i was flying home from a job in san diego and i was talking to an older gentleman and i asked him where he lived he said crestview.
I ask the older gentleman if he knows the kubota dealer owner in crestview by chance and i get a reply that he has lunch with him at least once or twice a month . he tells me the history about this dealer and that they carry both john deere and kubota. Hummm very interesting .
I call up said dealer and get a good ole boy on the phone and he tell me they are all out of kubota grand l s that are new but they just got a 2011 l4240 hst cab in that has 158 hrs on the clock . Im thinking man thats gunna cost like 30k and its out of the price im willing to pay . He tells me the price and i say ill be there that afternoon to take a look .
I get there and the owner asks me when i walk through the door by my name . He thanks me for my service seeing that eagle globe and anchor on my hat .
he takes me out and shows me a low hour cab l4240 with r4s and qd bucket. It comes home friday for 22.5k 158hrs and all of the history is from my new dealer . I have no qualms traveling an hour for the service they give .( Were i live you gotta go 1/2 hour to get a decent grocery store haha!) they are delivering the tractor no charge . He knows i want a backhoe when i can afford it and gave me a good price he said he will honor till 2014 models roll out that hes at kubotas mercy . you cant ask for more than that . God bless that we live in a country where we dont have to accept a crappy dealer if we are willing to travel! will post pics on friday - Pops bringing his scut down from atlanta to move some shrubs for his daughter in law ( my wife ) boy he is in for a surprise !
Semper Fi to all my brothers
God bless the rest of you
