loaded for bear and looks like she is handling it well!

nice pic

I'm gonn afind it very hard to ever sonsider going back to a 3/4 or a 1/2 ton truck after being spoilded by the towing capacity of a 1t... the tire price is a bit gruesome.. but for those of us that tow/haul weekly.. the safety margin is nice..

I finally got a chance to get my truck set up with my new deck to carry the two ATV's and my camper and got away for a last weekend camping before winter starts. The set- up work's excellent. Just what I was hoping for.......Craig

Great looking truck!! I have been curious about what kind of mileage the 8.1 gets. If you dont mind can you post your MPGs ...around town, highway, loaded with trailer etc.

I haven't had the truck long enough to give exact mileage numbers yet but I have put about 1800 miles on. So I will take a shot. Unloaded on a seven hour drive on major highways going approximately 65 miles per hour, the gas mileage was approximately 18 miles per gallon . Not bad for such a big truck. In mixed secondary highway driving with some in town the mileage seems to drop a bit but not a lot , I am guessing maybe 15 or 16 mpg.
On my trip last weekend loaded with the trailer, deck,Atv's, firewood, two people and a dog driving 6 hours one way on a highway with frequent elevation changes I got about 10 or 11.
As a comparison the last time I did the same trip with my suburban with the trailer ( but no Atv's) I got approximately 16 mpg.
All in all I have no complaints about the mileage, I love knowing that I can tow anything I want without having to worry about whether I will have enough power.........Craig

Are you hand calculating the MPG figures or going off the dash read out? That seems to good to be true from a gas motor. Many guys would be happy to see that with a diesel.

Is that converted to US? Or Imperial?

Diamond, the truck doesn't have a trip mileage computer. But you are right I sat down this morning and redid the calculations for the first mileage numbers that I gave (18mpg approx) I hand calculated it using the formula on aqua-calc .com . I was off a bit in my original calculating. I have the numbers thru three full tanks of gas and it worked out to 13.9 liters per 100 Klms,14.1 per 100 kms and 14.2 per 100 Klms .so on the high side it works out to 16.922mpg and on the low side it is 16.564 mpg.
The other numbers are more of an educated guess judging by how much I spent in gas on my trip compared to previous times but I beleive that they will prove fairly accurate.
Salt branch , US..........Craig

You have the 8.1l right? The best mpg I have seen with that motor was 15. You must be doing something right!! I have always liked that engine and the ford V10. Really good motors.

I still say there is something wrong with your math converting it over. Can you post a example?

Not calling you a lier or anything. Its just that I have owned trucks from all five manufactures. I have had big blocks, small blocks, and 4 diesels and never seen a gas 1 ton come.near that. Heck, most gas 1/2 tons with good gears like GM's 3.42 can barely do that.

All right, any math teacher I ever had would likely agree with you that my math might have some issues...lol
Unfortunately my original receipts went in the fire barrel last night so I can't reconstruct the exact original numbers I used but I can tell you how I did it.
Starting with a full tank and zeroed trip meter I drove 500 Klms and stopped for gas. I filled the truck up and it takes 70 liters.
The stupid metric gas mileage standard is liters per 100 Klms , so divide the 500 Klms I drove by 100 and you get 5, so take the 70 liters of gas it took to refill the tank and divide by 5 and you get 14. Therefore in this example my mileage is 14liters/100klms.
Ok , the conversion calculation to go from liters/100klms to mpg is MPG=235.214583333333 divided by liters per 100 Klms . So......235.214583333333 divided by 14 = 16.8010416 mpg.
Ok crap ,now my brain hurt's, obviously the above example was simplified to make the division easier but I think they are a fairly accurate representation of the first three fills on the day I drove 10 hours plus to pick up my carry deck. If there is a problem with my numbers it would have to be a mistake that I made at the start with the original division to get the liters per 100 Klms number that I had written on the receipts.
Finally ,I too have had any number of vehicles over the years ,probably a dozen truck's, half that in suv's a bunch of cars motorcycles etc so I have a pretty good idea the kind of money I spend on gas on any given week for my 400 to 800 kilometer weekly commute and the amounts that I am spending now aren't appreciably different then they were a month ago when I was driving my Suburban full time. Whether that means that my truck gets good mileage or that my suburban gets crappy mileage I don't know but either way I am more then satisfied................Craig

Well, I guess your math is right. Canada must be all down hill with a tail wind.

I go to Canada about once a month for work. What I do to convert is it takes 3.75 Liters to make one US gallon of fuel. So using your example lets say you bought 70 liters of fuel. Divide that 70 liters by 3.75. That is 18.7 US gallons of fuel.

Now 100 KM equals 62 miles. So if you drove 500 KM you would multiply 62 miles by 5.00 for 500 KM. That equals 310 miles. If you drove 310 miles and used 18.7 US gallons that would work out to 16.5 mpg.

Just two different ways to skin that cat.
