Hey all, Gooberlog checking in from Maryland. About a year ago I bought a house on 2 acres of almost flat land all open with lots of grass. I quickly went out and bought a second hand riding mower with the largest deck I could find and ended up with a used 2008 ariens riding mower with a 54" deck and 25 hp engine. This machine still takes me almost 3 hours to cut my 2 acres. My father in law, a home builder, came over for a party and realize how big the property actually is. He graciously offered me to bring home his '88 Kubota L2250DT tractor. He said he doesn't use it much lately since the economy was bad and he was doing smaller remodel jobs and he has a landscaper come mow his 3 acres.
So the Kubota has been sitting for a few years or so and we actually had to dig the mower deck out of the bushes with a chain and my truck. He has been starting up the machine and letting it warm up every so often at least long enough to keep the battery alive, so that tells me on a regular basis he occasionally took it for a drive and operated the bucket ect. I have since towed it home and started it and move it around on a regular basis as well. It has a coolant leak which I hope to find some time this week with a coolant pressure I borrowed from a mechanic I'm good friends with. One of the hydraulic lines leaks enough that it has a t-shirt wrapped around the fitting. Don't know if this is wishful thinking but I plan on undoing the connection and putting some Teflon tape on it to try to fix the leak. Other than a tire that goes flat fast, just a bunch of maintenance needed to get it caught up.
I plan on replacing the fuel filter, oil change, coolant once I fix the leak, probably a drive belt, but not sure what else I should do.
The machine has less than 1000 hours on it which I imagine is decent for its 25 year age
--Is the fluid in the rear ends necessary to change (4X4)
--Do you need to worry about hydraulic oil other than making sure you have enough
I'm sure I have other questions I'll think of later, but please feel free to add an advice. I'm thinking buying an operators manual to get more familiar with it as some of the labels and what not are gone.
I have removed the grader box and set it aside and plan to mount 6' mower deck on the belly soon.
