down there in the shifter under the center console id the main raceway for the total eletrical systemeverything going to the battery and ebgine is run through there and it's very easy for a wire to come out of the tubing it's in because i just took mine down to inspect the front hanger bearing. but john deere don't tape or tie wrap any of the wire into the wire tubesthey are just pushed in there and thats it.so i figure a wire came out and it got pinched in one of the levers and grounded out.

I will hopefully get some pics of the Damage tomorrow when I get it to the dealer. I looked at it this morning and the wiring harness is basically gone, the fuse block, and the battery is melted. None of the heat went through the wires to the engine itself..........at least none are melted that far back. The front right stub diff shaft is toast . Don't know how this happened pulling it in, but it is off of the front hub. Oh well, dealer told me to get it out of the woods if I could................I am hoping after looking at the machine this morning that a new harness (complete), battery, and shaft will get me rolling again. I sure hope that there aren't any hidden problems that I or my dealer can't find..................those are aggrevating and drive me nuts. Besides, this is a brand new machine and the problem is definately a warranty issue. I want it like brand new when I get it back. Is this too much to ask of my dealer?......................I will keep you guys informed and thanks for your help............................Roger

after it burned up i would want a new one.a word of advise take them big tires off they might try to weasle out of the hub being you put over sized tires on it . put the stock ones back on before bringing it back in.them big tires are rough on the hubsand them vamps "i think thats what you said you had"they have a really good weight to them.when you put them on you probably doubled the weight you had on the hub not to mention shock load when hitting a bump with mud on them they were probably 3 times as heavy as a stock tire and rim.

Will try for a new machine, but that prolly won't happen without an attorney ( which depending on how dealer reacts might come into play). I will put the stock wheels and tires on it fore' going to dealer tomorrow. This whole problem is a "Deere" problem and I am not gonna take any answer that is less...................I have been around long enough to know when something is my fault and when something is (in this case) Deere's fault................I prolly' shouldn't be this angry, but I am getting ready just in case. Like I said earlier, my dealer has been great so far................when I am spending $$$$$$$................now I will see how great they are when they are having to lick problems with $$$$$$$$.............................Roger

ok you said you put it in gear and heard a pop that means a wire got pinched in the console . who wired up the winch/and lights/gps and any other extra eletrical stuff you had put on? did you take it to someone other than john deere for the installation of this stuff? if not then john deere is responsible for it but if you took it to an outside person to get this stuff installed and joun deere sees that it was not thier wires that caused the fire you better hope the other guy was lisensed and bonded so you can get you xuv fixed by him. now as for as the hubi would really put the stock tires back on before takin it to the dealer. just think how lucky you was you had a battery on one side that could have blew up in the fire and a 6 gallon gas tank on the other that could have blew too so you got off really easy this time. i don't see why the wire would have burned they should have installed a fuse at the battery but thinkin about didn't the xuv's move the fuses all the way up to the front under the hood?if so then that would give you a 4 foot fuse to burn before it got to the fuse block atlest with the hpx it's right next to the battery that way if it grounds out your only gonna burn 6" of wire .i think what deere should do is put another sealed fuse block by the battery just for thisthats why all the cars have the main fuse blocks right by the batterys so if something happens you don't burn 6 foot of wire and the whole car down before the fuse block. go to the auto parts store and in the car stereo department you can get them fues blocks that hold one main fuse that you can put inline on the positive line trust me if you ground out a wire it will save your utv or car from burning to the ground.

Tommy, All was hooked up by Dealer cept' the gps. I hooked it up myself and the wiring for it isn't running through the center shift area. In fact, on the battery it is basically the only lead that is coming off the battery that isn't burn't. I hope that the gps isn't toast (praying)............

I feel just like tommy, I'd take the oversized tires off and hand the machine back to them, and tell them I want a NEW unit now. I wouldn't accept no less. I would imagine you have insurance.
Second the motion for installing the original tires back on.... That would be a big plus !!!
Third, if for some stupid reason they don't give you a new machine, are they going to give you a machine until the torched one get fixed....

I swear, I would of let the thing burn to the ground, for I've known of to many pieces of machinery that was so called " fixed " be trouble for the life of that machine.
DEMAND A WHOLE NEW UNIT, LET THEM FIX THAT ONE, AND THEN THEY CAN SELL THAT ONE FOR A DEMO MODEL !!!!!
P.S.
Make 'em replace my dern GPS SYSTEM ALSO, sorry, but this situation just makes me sick, and it isn't even my machine... I know what you are going threw, went threw it in a pick-up truck years ago, and when it was so called fixed, it never give me nothing but trouble since, then it cought fire again, and let it burn slap down to the ground that time !!!!!! And Then, only then, did I get a truck that was suitable to live with. Matter of fact, still have it, use as a farm truck !!!!

shifter pinches wire wire going to battery catches fire walla. the way they do it now they moved the fuses to under the hood i think instead of next to the battery so like i posted in my earlier post if something grounds out it will burn from the battery all the way to the fuse as for as combustibal stuff you got a battery wich has acid in it (boom) then you got the fuel tank on the other side bigger boom. but the main thing is the fuses that were moved from the battery box to under the hood or dash to me that was a big NO!NO!. they need to put a main cut off fuse next to the battery if they gonna move the fuse block way up front it don't make sense to have a fuse block 5 feet from a battery with a fuse in it and have5 feet of un protected wire . and when i say unprotected wire i mean no fuse they need one at the positive battery terminal too.

What the heck is even in there to start fire? You've got a few electrical wires down there I know which could easily start it via a short but I don't recall any combustable material under there.
