Ask a friend to whack you in the cods a few times. It will be alot less painfull.

:laughing::laughing: it can't be all that bad. There are more than just a few guys here doing it for a living. I'm looking at more of a supplemental income from it.

Make sure you check out a Takeuchi TL250 high flow. I've only put 100 hr on mine so far but it's far better machine in the woods then my old ASV. I am in the roughest terrain I have ever been in and the Takie is handling it perfectly. If you had a 36 acre rock wall, add a lot of mud and that would be this job. The front idler wheel are much larger then other track loaders so it climbs over rocks and logs much better.

I really am impressed with how the machine handles the terrain.

You may also want to wait as ASV is supposed to have a new machine out very soon.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't really looked a whole lot at the Takeuchi products but I will now. ****, I'm not even sure who would sell them around here but I'll start digging. I have pretty much concentrated on Cat's and ASV's. I was turned off of the Cat's when the salesman blew me off 'cause I wasn't looking at buying new at the time. Their loss in $$$ from me. I'm not really impressed with the ASV dealer up around here either, but I do like the product.

Thanks.....I needed a good laugh!

I'm with Robbie, I don't think you'll see a 100+ hp skid steer. It just is not the right carrier.

There are 2 skids coming out this year that are 100 or 100+ hp. Im not sure exactly what the hp will be but Bobcat is making one, and ASV is supposed to release one as well.

Well I checked out the Tak ................ here they are priced 'bout 42k higher than the Terex PT 100 machines ........... it's about 125k to get into a new TL250 rigged up to run a mulcher ...... it's a little more than I want to spend on a first machine .......... so I thought I would keep looking for a PT 100. A few phone calls later, I encountered another bump in the road. There seems to be some issues with transfering warranties with the Terex units bought in the USA, or so I was told. The fellow I talked to told me that that if I purchased a new unit down south, and not from them, the warranty might not necessarily be honoured up here in the great white north. I contacted Terex directly and I am supposed to call a fellow in the States tomorrow regarding this issue. If this turns out to be the case, I will be looking at buying something other than the PT 100 as well, or just scrap the idea completely....

Rip, theres two Rayco C87's at the Ritchie Auction in Grand Prairie in a couple weeks... They will out perform any skid, they are made specifically for mulching and they got a decent head on them, not to mention steel tracks and I guarantee they will be cheaper than any new skid. A skid steer no matter what you do to it is still a skid steer, if your serious about mulching save the head ache and just start off with a real machine.. Many on here will tell you the same. FYI not many are bidding on mulchers right now, I just bought a Tigercat M760 for well... not much.. There's also 5 Gyrotrac GT25's there too.. Hmmm maybe I'll take a 20hr ride :D

Hope I've clicked on the right icon. I'm new to this forum and thread.Sought advice from a poster here, but used some terms incorrectly. I'm not interested in clearing land on a scale I see some here writing about.Pipeline and/or power-line ROW work is something a one man operation can't do effectively if at all. When I speak of clearing land, I'm talking about smaller acreage.Up to 20 acres for instance.Trees of 8" diameter or less.Bigger trees that a customer insists must go would be felled with a chainsaw.A park look is most accurate.I want to do work traditionally done here in SE LA with a tractor and bush hog.Site prep for a home or landscaping might be more accurate. Not interested in cutting grass.I feel an 80hp machine with a Davco/Bradco/? cutter would be my primary tool.A bucket and forks are likely to be quite useful.A brush grapple would probably be useful as well.I've been told that a stump grapple might not be, but I don't know if we were on the same page.I'd like to hear opinions on a business of this type, particularly from some of you who've been involved in something other than mulching. That seems to me to be a highly specialized niche.I'd also like to know how else to utilize the machine to keep it and me busy.Looks like I'll need to put tracks on it in the local environment.Ground here is very soft and will swallow anything on wheels.Have yet to see how I could get on a construction site.As a sub perhaps? Lotsa questions and head scratchin' goin' on here.
