Please forgive me if this is not the place to post my question. I am the owner of a Cub Cadet Riding Lawn Mower (Model #13A226JD010). I have had the unit about a year and a half. Out of the box, this machine worked like a charm. I take great care of it, always making sure all the grass is sprayed off of the deck before putting away, keep the gas fresh, make sure the oil is at the appropriate level. All of a sudden my mower will not start, it won't even make a clicking sound upon turning the key. Alas, I am a transplant from New York City, and this is my first lawn mower. Any suggestions on what I should check to get this thing back up and running again? My lawn needs a good mowing.

Thank you all in advance.

To the TBN forum City Boy. We are glad that you joined with us here.

It sounds like a safety switch is preventing it from starting. One of the easiest to miss is the PTO engagement switch. Any of the other safety switches may be loose or damaged.

Thank you mddorange. Forgive my ignorance, but would that be the safety switch for the blades or the one under the driver's seat?

How about checking the battery or its connections also.

It could be either.
If it is the one under the seat then you could easily test by placing a short across the switch.
If it is the one for the blades, then it would be a little more difficult to get back there.

Sometimes an interlock switch gets flaky. Try switching PTO on and off a few times. Depress and release the brake pedal a few times while turning the key. Sometimes the brake pedal has to hit the right spot before the starter will engage. Depressing the brake pedal and engaging the Park Lock will bypass the seat interlock and eliminate it as a cause. If all else fails you may need to trace the 12 volts from the ignition switch to the start relay using a multimeter if you're comfortable using one. Checking for 12 volts from the battery terminal on the starter to the tractor frame while attempting to start it will eliminate the two battery cables.

Could be the Spring Switch Actuator part # 732-3117. This is a $4 part that is a commonly failing part that is part of the brake pedal rod assy. on all Series 2000 tractors. Kind of a cheap metal part. Not surprising it fail often. When it fails the engine won't turn over when the brake pedal is depressed and the key is turned.
