New to Tractoring !

Good morning from Alabama !! I just bought a brand new (to me) ... used 1998 John Deere 955 with FEL, Bush hog, belly mower, and tiller over the weekend. It is my first tractor to own/drive/play with. I am quite excited. I have 50 acres of land, mostly wooded, that I will be tending too. I had to comb over the forums to figure out how to even crank it up (did you know these things require a key !!!) :laughing: . This site has tons of knowledge and I look forward to learning as much as possible to keep this little hoss of a tractor running and hopefully can provide help one day.

Your going to want to get into a shop and have them perform a 400hr. service on it. Completely go over it all fluids and filters if you haven't already. That old of a tractor always assume nothing was done to it and do it yourself or pay to have it done.

Then.. have a neighbor with Tractor experience show you some things about it .. do's and don'ts.. that would be my advice..

Awesome name lol, fitting. I'm newish to owning a tractor myself, biggest tractor before this one was my dads 445 JD, it was 99 I think. I really like those JD's of that time. My dad also has a 1950 case SC that I dug out of a old barn and convinced him to fix it up rather than letting it rot, we got it going by pulling it with my tractor, but the point to that story is it has no key, you just hit a button with your foot and that turns over the motor. It also has a hand crank, which I was unsuccessful at starting it with lol, it's not as easy as it looks. Welcome to the site, lots of good info here, a 955 is a good tractor and I'm sure it will serve you well. Just don't forget to post lots of pics.
