New to us tractor hesitates when backing up an incline

RFB did a good job of describing what to do. I recommend:

1: follow his advice.... you may be able to analyze what was happening and the whole problem is fixed.

2: Pay attention when the problem occurs... are you light in the seat?? As others have said, the seat safety switch may be cutting in and starting to kill the engine, but if you sit back down quick enough it will start up again. I discovered that if I lean forward to see out of the cab when raising the FEL high in the air that I get light in the seat and engine will start to cut out. It seems that either the tractor must be MOVING or the hydraulics ACTIVATED for this to happen... point is, you can crawl off the immobile tractor with FEL off the ground and engine will not stop.

Glad you are getting some good seat time in the tractor she got... you'll enjoy it!!

Thanks gentlemen, I've confirmed that my butt is floating up too much. I'm thinking about adding 20 or 30 lbs to the seat to make up for my light rear.

Try donuts...cream filled are good, and chocolate covered...

with sprinkles.

I re-adjusted the switch on my BX24. Took maybe 5 minutes and solved the problem. Still have the safety but not the inconvenience.

Geez, I wish I had that problem!

No crashz, it's terrible. I eat as much bacon, butter, and ice cream as I can but I just can't gain weight. :p

Just watch it as it does catch up to ya and when it does it just keeps on going then it is dam hard to remove once on. Take it from one or more of us that knows. :)

Wierd, my L3410 hst has no seat switch. I mow standing up a lot so that I can see stumps, rocks and partially hidden MDT's (Mower Destructing Thingies).

Just passing through and saw your post. I have an L3130HST just like yours. As I read your initial post, I said the same thing the subsequent posters did.

1. HST pedal isn't a gas pedal. Don't push down when under a major load, or you'll bog down. Took me exactly one time to get stuck in soft muck while boxblading to figure this out...hasn't happened since. As load increases, pull your foot up, which in turn will port fluid to a lower gear in that range. The new (2007 and later L3240, which replaced the L3130) has the HST Pedal and rpm (apply more diesel feature) tied in together. Pretty neat concept.

2. I weigh 215. Seat switch still gets me on occasion. The fact you were backing up definitely shifts your already light weight to the front of the tractor (or to the rear while backing up;)).

3. Also wanted to add that the L3130 has an adjustment for seat tension. Yours is probably set at factory specs (heavier person). You should loosen the adjustment so that your 150lbs will push the seat down further (lowering the tension) and thereby allowing more seat to switch contact. That way, you'll be pressing the seat down like a 200lber would.

John_Bud mentioned not having the seat switch. I wish I didn't have it. If someone will post how to bypass the connector without causing an electrical problem, I'm all ears. It would be nice to stand up while creeping along sometimes...and yes, especially while bushhogging or when I'm going in reverse with a 1200lb round bale of hay on the 3pt. Heck, just a good ole "leg stretch" is nice after several hours on the machine.

I'm going to leave the safety switch alone since I'm a rookie and might benefit from it.

My neighbor has been farming next door for over 50 years and he told me a story. He was running a bottom plow on recently cleared land many years ago. He had to pee so of course he let the tractor run and stood up to relieve himself. Halfway into it the plow hit a stump and he got tossed like a booger.:D
