Had a look , a similar idea i see . They all seem to have the thinking caps on now . They have found it is better to slice chunks out of a tree rather than bash it with a hammer . I think there is still some room for improvement as in my mind , when a sharp tooth of that design takes a bite , centrifigal motion would keep the chip in the curl of the tooth . I would think it would still be there the next time that tooth came into contact with the tree and interfere with the next bite . They need a taper on the tooth shank to discard the chip too the side as soon as it is cut ready for the next bite .

I've tried them

Can't say enough about how they cut and leave material. Within 5 minutes I was wishing I had a real cutting head (Denis Cimaf...)

The new teeth are geat in small material but really shine as the wood gets bigger. I was knocking down 16 inch pines like they were 8 inches...very impressive.

Negatives, since Fecon does not have a depth limiting system the tooth can take bite that may be too big but the biggest problem was in the smaller stuff where it would grab a few 1 inch in diameter sapling and just spin them around in the head. As in, the cutting tooth would pass the horizontal piece of wood and pick it up and suck it in. I would have to either wait 30 seconds to a minute or shut her down and back up with the head touching the ground to un roll the saplings. I am sure this would not happen with the DC heads. Also I went through a set of teeth in about 60-65 hours ($750) the first 60 hours were in rock free cutting (below) but destroyed what was left of them real quick when I got in some rocks...I will need to limit where I use them and decide if it is worth changing all the teeth back and forth as I need to.

I think a DC head is in my future, probably for a medium size excavator.

that is a drastic improvement over the hammers for sure...like you said tho the limiting rings on our head are equally as important as the teeth..have you seen the excavator head before? i am going to talk to Robbie about maybe getting the head he has up here to put on our Tak tb175...and do some demos...i will get plenty of pics and videos for everyone

Thanks Scott. I really do enjoy this work.

CVG. I'd be interested in how the DC head would work on the Tak..it seems to be light on HP and flow...

I have an chance at a Kubota 080 in great shape for a good price..but not sure if it will work out. I'd have to sell the Mustang 6003 and I really like that machine.

Quick,

I have an 080, and I ran a Tak 175 for three months. I like the Tak for balance, but the 080 runs the head better- One word of caution- WEIGHT

I have not had a chance to run the DC yet, but I would not want to be more than #1000 on the boom. I do not like my rockhound, but the weight of the 30 is great. The 40 is too heavy, and causes the machine to tip and puts too much weight on the tracks behind the boom (Where ever that may be...)

The Loftness weighs in at #1600 and is too heavy for this machine.

Just a word of caution... I am thinking of seling my 080 to get a JD120 or 160

QD , they are great pictures . Those teeth do an awsome job on light scrub , but i can see your point about the teeth being able to take too big a bite . Those tooth holders are too long without some form of depth limiting like the DC heads . Large horizontal material would wrap up or suddenly stall the rotor . How long did that area take you to do and what would the cost be to the land owner , it looks like a park land , i bet they were happy with the result .

I saw an advertisment for shinn grinding, so I had to search to find out it was a name brand.
It would be helpful if there was some specs on what size mini ex. you would need to carry certain mulching heads. It would be better to find someone knowledgeable rather than trial and error. I haven't.
