Well I can help there!! These excavators are proper size to run our DAH-080C It's still a tad heavy at 1300lbs without door. But I haven't seen anything that can hang with it yet. Honestly not even close.

Kubota KX080 18500 lbs with 25 gpm
Cat 308D heavy with 30+gpm
Komatsu PC88
Gehl 803 and up

I have run the Kubota, Gehl and soon the Cat 308. I think there has been an install on the PC88 al well.
Something to also to mention is our heads are designed to run off the tractor hyd WITHOUT powerpacks and do so well. This is also the baby of the group. Fromhere on just add weight on the excavator and h.p. and mulch away.

supposedly there is an outfit near me - Tractor grapples, grapple rakes and guards, Addington Equipment

that has begun to convert what looks like a large bobcat excavator and putting some higher flow pump in it...not sure of the specs yet (there isn't anything on the website yet) but I remember it being impressive...

I'll see what I can find out...

I talked to him last year, he had 100hp in a Kubota 161, redesigned the rear of the machine. The same motor as in my Mustang but with a turbo. He was tring to sell his 1st generation head to me for 10k but then said he had much better ideas for the next one. He also does have a Bobcat 442 with two motors..
He seemed like a good guy, not sure why you would want 100 hp in such a small carrier since it won't lift a big head.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Here is the link to our heads running. I have seen a Shinn cutter in action and it was impressive, right up till he told me in 8 hours he burned 110 gallons on diesel. Thats over 300.00 of diesel at current prices. They normally use a cat 320 size machine. Go up a few sizes to the 325, use our head and cut nearly the same with half the fuel burn and alot less machine cost. And if your looking for something cheaper buy a used feller buncher excavator style and they have hyd galor. Easy install and no extra plumbing.

*Robbie, That certainly helps. I'm on a job now where I can't clean the 8' banks (hills) with my ASV. I suggested clearing by hand. He said he knew where he could get a track with bushhog attached. My next questions would be . Would these machines need gaurding? What are you able to do with these machines to generate mulching business? Other than ocassional areas like I described.

Hey AX. I have put some time on the Kubota with our head and never had anything major hit the cab. A few chips but our heads produce such small chips they loose velocity quickly. It you like though the Kubota has threaded spots on the front window for a cage. They have some kind of forestry package but I have never seen it.
But I never felt the Kubota needed it. The head cuts from side to side. I even mulched with my 3 yrs old with me. Plus with an excavator you have such control it great.
Now business. That's tricky. Like the job you mentioned it would be good. It's ideal for rentention ponds and dams. If you can exploit this it will make you money. If other contractors know you have it it can make you money. To try to generate work from scratch that might be tough. I did around lakes with success. It is good for raising canopies on tree. If you have the excavator it can help on larger jobs along with a skid steer, it want be as fast as the skid (not expected) but will help.
You can reach 20-25' out from the excavator while following a straight line with less ground impact. It's an expensive venture that takes alot of planning and ground work. But if you can get one or two counties to suggest you for retention ponds and dam cleanup your good. There are regulations for maintaining them. Plus the finished product our heads leave can stay in the pond. If you cut the trees down whole at the base they will require removal from the pond (atleast here).
There is a company that has based it's whole business on maint. and building retention ponds. They have all the Walmart's and other major shopping centers around here.
See what you think of that.

That's Purdy Good... I went to You Tube after I posted the questions. It was helpful also. Thanks

Wanted to comment on Shinn cutters. Seen one mounted on a excavator and stopped to look at it. Looks like it would cut pretty good since it uses "hotsaw" teeth, but the owner had the entire rotor welded up the hard surface, so wear must be a big factor.
