Until today, I've been an anonymous lurker reaping all the information I could find on these boards. This information has been invaluable in making the decision on which tractor to buy. Between Christmas and New Year, I will be receiving and NH TC35A with a FEL, QA bucket and pallet forks, a 6' galvanized box blade and a 6" & 9" post hole auger. My primary excuse for acquiring this tractor will be to unload a 800-1000 lb pallet delivered weekly for my family business. The real reason for the new machine is that I want a tractor!
I built an new home about 7 years ago on a 1.5 acre lot. I bought a beat-up old Ford 3000 to level the yard and move some dirt. I tore the clutch up and the tractor sat for too long while my wife fussed about it "marking its spot" on the driveway. In a moment of weakness, I traded it for a new Miller Bobcat welding machine and trailer. I've missed my tractor ever since. I've shopped for tractors off and on for the past couple of years. I originally decided on a Farmtrac DTC300, but later decided against it because the operator platform is too small. I'm 6'3 and 300 lbs, so I probably look like a gorilla on a tricycle when sitting on the Farmtrac. I've looked at almost every color and make of tractor since, and using your information plus my own reasoning decided on a New Holland TC40. I walked in my local dealership with a quote from a North Carolina dealership on this tractor and my local dealer made it worth my while not to drive to NC to buy that tractor. They made me a very good price on a TC35A they had on the lot ($1300 less than the TC40A).
I've got lots of work to do since Hurricane Rita blew through in September and tore up the landscape. I've got 9 trees down, fence to build/rebuild plus more land leveling to do. I thank you all for the information you've provided. I'll continue to glean more and contribute my .02 when I can add something worthwhile. Y'all keep it up, and thanks again!
