Kubota 7610
Greetings all.....I am new to the group and was relieved to find out there was this kind of resource available for a "rookie" like me. I am in the process of purchasing a B series Kubota. I am torn between the 7610 and the 7800. I like the extra power of the 7800, but I am not sure if I need that much. I have a very uneven, wooded 5 acre lot that I hope to clear out over time to open up my property a little more. Most of the trees are scrub pines 1" - 2" in diameter and 8 feet tall (they are everywhere!) I hoped to clear most of it out, bring in some topsoil ( a lot of it) and start a small orchard and expand my lawn significantly. I am thinking that I may have to hire a landclearing service to do the bulk of it, then do all of the cleanup and resoration with my tractor. Well....thats what I want the tractor for.

I live in th lakes region of NH.....here is the price I got from MB Tractor Equipment.

B7800 w/FEL LA402 $15,581.00 (with no $ down) 72 months = $261.00/month

B7610 w/FEL LA352 $12,750.00 (with $ 500 dwn.) 72 months = $209.00/mnth

It didn't occur to me to haggle with the guy on the price, I didn't look at it as the same as buying a car. Am I wrong here...is the price they give the rock bottom from Kubota or the dealership or should I be trying to get them to knock of a few hundred ...or more? Do those prices sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TBN :D! The B7800 does have higher ground clearance and is ~300#'s heavier than the B7610 in addition to more HP. I think a lot of us here on TBN would like to know what else you intend to do both in the near term and in the long term. Do you envision mowing, tilling, brush hogging, snow and/or material handling, serious dirt moving, etc.? Are you sold on Kubota's (They are really good tractors :))? Do not get "hung up" on HP- it is important, but there are a lot of other variables that need to be factored in. If you intend ultimately that you want to do some serious "dirt work" (They might be on the light side.)? What kind of tires you need depends on your anticipated use. I would suggest that you also post questions in the Kubota Forum. Those "orange guys" seem to breed like rabbits there is a lot of resource information there. Keep the posts coming :). The members of TBN love to spend everyone else's money . Good luck- Jay

I am partial and ****. The B7800, nothing down, FEL, MM mower - $18,000 at zero % financing = 500 per month for 36 months. Done deal.

You can less the mower by $3K.

You'll like the 7800 once you get it. The 76 is a fine machine indeed but I'd opt for the overkill. It will be useful sooner than later.

The prices above are very close to what I gathered a few months back while shopping. I saved by asking the salesman for his best dollar in order to save me trips all over the area. He cut some off, I took it.

If you don't haggle, chances are that you will pay to much. Almost all the dealers that I know expect the customer to haggle.

1) Haggle
2) Don't buy more tractor than you need. The 7610 is more than adequate for the tasks you outline.

I've handled a much bigger landclearing operation with a 21hp tractor and the right implements. Don't forget that a 7610 with the right implements is going to be more efficient than the 7800 with dual purpose or inadequate implements. 7610 with grapple will clobber a 7800 with bucket and toothbar. Use the money you save for proper tools to put on the business ends of the tractor and don't worry about a few horsepower.

The best way to haggle is to get prices from other dealers

Haggling is 99.9% of the fun in buying anything! NO WAY do I pay "list". My wife refuses to go with me when I go car or truck shopping.

My dad was the best I've ever seen at haggling. He actually had a car salesman in tears one time. Poor guy was ready to give him the car just to get us out of his office. Dad was as giddy as a schoolgirl when we left.

I agree with IslandTractor. Like I said in my first post "do not get 'hung up' on HP". The ground clearances and weight differences are not that great in reality. It really does come down to how you use the attachments you get and I agree with dual purpose implements- they are a trade off as to capabilities. IMHO a B7800 is a lot of tractor for 5 A's, and a landclearing service with their specialized equipment may save you a lot of aggravation, time, and wear and tear on your new tractor. Jay

skyout,

Welcome to TBN.

Normally I am a HP junky as more HP normally relates to a more capable & heavier machine especially when going up a class size larger. Unfortunatley in this case, there is no overkill in the B7800. The B7800 can be thought of as the luxury version of the B7610. It has the same FEL lift capacity & hydraulic pump capacity as the B7610. The only true advantage that I see of the B7800 is the 4 cylinder engine which will run smoother with less operator platform vibration. In addition, over the long haul, will be able to handle more abuse (with higher HP engine as well) when doing heavier tasks. Other than that, it is slightly longer, wider & 300# heavier......so what !! You can add weight to the B7610 easily.

The only thing I did not look into are the ergonomic advantages if any. Normally, the luxury class will have more comfortable seating & possibly a better Operator controls layout. You will need to investigate further. Have you put both tractors through their paces. If not....you will never truly know.

I would have to agree with most of the others in this case that your best bet is the B7610. The $2800 difference can buy you some nice additional implements.

In so far as haggling....it's a game to be sure & you have the winning hand, don't forget that. If your patient & persistent you will have that Tractor for hundred's less.

Good Luck With Whatever You Decide !

Skyout,

Look around and haggle. I have found price differences of up to several thousand dollars between dealers. I am located in NH as well and I would suggest you checking out Chappell Tractor in Milford. Always remember to look at the service after the sale as well. I personally have had a bad experience with MB's service department when I had to have a new clutch put in my tractor. I was told they don't make service appointments and to drop the tractor off and they would get to it when they had the opportunity. Well six weeks later and several run around phone calls later I will drive the extra 45 minutes to deal with Chappell tractor when it comes time to buying a new one.
