Tractor
850 john deere
Hi Yall,
I Have recently purchased my first tractor a JD 850 1985 year model with only 183 hours on it. It belonged to my uncle and needless to say to hardly ever used it. the question I have is would it be possible to add a loader to this tractor? I think the hp on this tractor is 25 hp. Also without 4 wheel drive would it be feasable to add a loader. I would mainly use it for brush clean up. hauling a little gravel. moving around some logs, etc. Any help would be appreciated as I can tell I have a lot to learn.
THANKS

85Silverado: My brother has an 850 which now has a tad over 1100 original hrs (its about an '86). As my brothers 850 has no power steering you will probably have a heck of a time trying to steer with a loader. Additionally the front tires are somewhat "slim" for a heavy load such as the loader and logs. If you go that rout you will probably be well served to get "car type" fronts to even the extra load. The rears are about 12 X 24. Nice little tractor though. It pulls a 5 ft brush hog well. BobG in VA

Thanks BobG,
I haven't even considered about the steering problem or the tire problems with adding a loader. I have used it to bush hog already and it took me about 1and a half hour to cut a 2 acre field where it use to take me over 4 hours to cut it with my snapper mower.

Hi...

I expect a loader can be added... as well as a backhoe... call a Deere dealer...

My previous '87 Deere 750 had a Deere loader & Deere backhoe...

The cost may be more than you expect... I dunno if Deere has 'em available any longer... finding one used or aftermarket may be a long shot... but Deere dealers can search for a new/used loader on their Deere computer network...

Yes you can certainly fit a loader to that tractor, run you about 3 grand installed or so. Steering will be a bear, for sure - and I think you might be better served to sell the tractor and buy another 4wd with loader already installed.

Or how about a 3PT mounted loader?
