My other half is in the car biz, the other day we saw a Toyota dealer our on a dealer trade run towing the cars being traded with a Chevy. I asked the driver why chevy and he said the Tundra couldn't last like the Chevy could under towing all the time.

I feel better now :)

I'm a Toyota man. I love all things Japanese made. But, I'll tell ya something, if I were in the market for a new truck right now, I'd buy a new Silverado, loaded, with 4x4. I just love the look of that truck. Chevy did it right on this one, great reviews, truck of the year and my research denotes that it's pretty reliable to be so new (the new style). Hats off to the designers who molded this bad boy. The 4x4 model with the extra clearance/bigger tires looks sweeeet.

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab...........only thing I would change is I should have gotten the 4wd, but it's not really killing me too much. The new styling is really good looking and people always assume my truck is 4wd.
Biggest issue I had at first was the hood design. It's flat and cuts off square at the grill which makes the truck appear bigger and closer to whatevers in front of you. Another complaint is that the door opening in not as tall as my older truck so consequently I've had to learn a new way to lean my head while getting in/out of the truck - otherwise 'bonk'.

I get the GM employee discounts through my brother, so (amounts are approx given my memory losses) my $32k truck was knocked down to bout $27k; then I had a $5k rebate; plus another $1k off for bonus points on my GM credit card, and I was looking at a brand new $21k truck; then I traded in my existing Sierra Crew Cab and knocked off another $13k....So I financed about $8k to upgrade to a new 2007 GMC last Fall.

I work for Chrysler and Drive an 06 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi V8, nice truck with fair quality. My neighbor, who I've known since about 7th grade, works for GM and drives an 07 Silverado. While the exterior styling of his Silverado is a little conservative compared my Ram, the Chevrolet (and just about anybody else's!) Interior blows my Dodge's Interior away. I was never impressed with the Ram Interior, but became very disappointed once I went for a ride in my neighbor's truck. Once you sit inside the Chevrolet/GMC, that interior should seal the deal on buying a new truck. Dodge can't get their new "DS" Platform out soon enough....just wish gas wasn't $3.25..

Just an update I will be picking up my new 08 Silverado LT tomorrow morning. It is the 1500 4WD Ext Cab with the LT1 package plus the power plus package, ez lift locking tailgate, off road suspension package, upgraded radio, remote vehicle start, heated mirrors (a real nice feature in the north country) power rear window, dual zone auto climent control, XM radio, power seats, and they included a spray in bed liner (actually this was already done on this truck and they used my small business ownership to give this to me as a benefit).

I had taken a redeye home from Vegas (trade show last week) so I could meet with Toyota to take a close look at the Tundra and see what they would do for me regarding trading in my truck.

They were pushing the smaller engine and I wasn't sure of the model level they were offering but thought it was the entry level Tundra. Well, I got there right on time today and the person I was to meet with wasn稚 there. I wasn't too happy aabout it, so I just decided to go back to the Chevy dealer and see what we could do to close the deal.

I am just not good at figuring out the deals that are being offered, but after about two hours of going back and forth I went out and switched the truck I was interested in and it had other features that they could offer a higher discount on and we ended up with a fair deal for my trade in truck and I felt the bottom line on the new truck was fair too.

The sticker price (as if that means a whole bunch) was $35,030 and after incentives and invoice price corrections it priced just under $28,000 so with my trade in the price of the truck was around $22,000. It is still a ton of money for a darn truck.

Having driven a few Chevy's over the years I believe the 08's have really come a long way both in style and the electronics.

Gm is offering customer loyalty rebates of $2000 in addition to the regular rebate. It's gotta be a 99 or newer gm your trading in to qualify. I'm looking at a leftover extended. Dealer told me I'd get $5000 in rebates and whatever dealer discount I could pull. Good price on these trucks is normally arount 10% off sticker, so your $35k truck should sell around 31-32k or so plus rebates. Your numbers seem about right.

WayneB,
Be sure and post up some pics of her after you pull the trigger. At least I can sniff the computer screen and imagine what a new one smells like again.:D

I believe I have done the best I could on the pricing issue. There is always the "Should Have, Could Have, Would Have" after the deals is done, but right now I think I will just enjoy the new truck and wait for someone to bang the door at the shopping mall so it won't be scratch free any longer.

Well, it is freezing rain falling right now so it looks like I will be able to break it in correctly today with salt, mud, dirt all the good stuff.

Podunkadunk:, that new vehicle smell last just about a month or so until the first payment is due and the state registration fee is paid. Here in New Hampshire the first year registration will be somewhere around six hundred dollars! Oh and there is the increase in the auto insurance too which will be a bit of a shock as well.

Well the truck in home just in time for mud season

They included the spray in bedliner which is really nice and I think will be much better than the plastic insert type I had in the last truck. There is an electrically controlled rear window, but with that option there is no rear window defrost.

I do like the way the back doors open wider, which will be much nicer when shopping. Notice the wife made me keep the old "catch-all matts" and then put them into the new truck, well they are there until the new set arrives within a week or so.

Very nice truck. I didn't realize the extended cab doors opened that far on the newer trucks.
