I bought a leftover 2016 Lariat Loaded back in March of 2017. At the time most dealers were offering $10,000 off and 0% APR. some dealers would take about $7,000 off with 0%. The truck I bought was a dealer demo, owner of dealer drove it. It probably never had a passenger in it. There was 6,000 miles on the odometer. Sticker was close to $66,000 I paid $52,000. As far as the warranty went the 3 years started when I bought it but the 6,000 miles falls under the 36,000 mile warranty. So I only have 30,000 to put on the bumper to bumper warranty.

That lost 6,000 miles could cost a lot... Which is my concern on the price. Thanks for the input.

Well the dealership got to write off milage reimbursement for those 5000 miles. Here is the table, for 2017 it was $.535. So that comes out to $2,675 (5,000*.535).

Standard Mileage Rates | Internal Revenue Service

Now comes the tricky part, how much to add depreciation into the calculation. If the above statement is correct that depreciation is 25% when driven off the lot, then you can take an additional $1,250 (5000*.25).

So the total cost of the dealership driving it for 5,000 would be 2,675 + 1,250 = $3,925. That is a cost to the dealership of $.785 per mile driven. I think that is a fair number to hold to.

The IRS mileage allowance of $0.535/mile for business purposes is an estimate of average total cost -- ownership (e.g., depreciation) and operating (e.g., fuel) costs are included. The allowance of $0.17/mile for medical/moving purposes is an estimate of average operating cost. The difference between $0.535/mile and $0.17/mile, $0.365/mile, is an estimate of average ownership cost.

Yes, the myriad of drivers. I once took a test drive of a Camry, with my Mother and the Salesman to a rural property we owned, that I wanted to check up on. Never realized they had so little ground clearance. My Mom was quite embarrassed, I thought it somewhat funny, but we did buy that car.

So, many vehicles have a "few" miles on them. I test drove my truck with maybe ten Kms on it, and bought it. Maybe someone else drove it around the block as well.

The 5000 KMS vehicles are more like what the sales guys get to take home and to the cottage, dogs, kids, ice cream and all! Clearly "Used" if you ask me.

The story on this one is the Dealers father used the truck for a few months. He also towed it behind his RV bus... Not sure how many miles this truck actually " rolled " down the road...

Towed it how, on the ground or on a trailer. If on the ground was the drive shaft disconnected? Or is there some other way to tow on the ground and not turn the drive line? I haven't kept up with RV towing of vehicles, especially rear wheel drives. Front drive, just put them on a tow dolly. Just wondering. Like others said, I would just walk away from that truck. Jon

Many 4wd vehicles can be flat towed by putting the transfer case into neutral.

Just spoke with the dealer, btw the owner, not a salesman... and he gave me another $3,000 off the price to " keep my business ", and will add the warranty to start at the 4,800 mile mark in writing. Also, the truck has never been towed, his father never got around to it. I think this is probably a pretty good deal, as the truck sticker's for $62K and he is coming down to $54K.
