I wish you could get a blend of work truck and deluxe. I for sure don't want leather seats, but I would like some of the accessories that you can only get with the trim level that requires leather seats. I also would prefer to not have carpet, I'm just going to cover it up with a floor liner anyway. Would kind of be nice to get the old 4wd floor shifter also. But I also want to get some options that make it a more comfortable daily driver.

I sure do agree with you. I must be getting old because I don't want a stereo with a gazzilion speakers but I would like to have a back up camera and some other safety equipment though the up front, and long term, price scares me. But the car companies use the items in the packages to get people to pay more for the car than they want by making you get package A and B to get item X and Y. When I heard that Jeep had a diesel engine, I went and priced one out. The danged thing was around $60,000! FOR A JEEP! To get the engine required a certain package(s) and it really drove up the price. One could get a Benz for that price.:shocked::shocked:

Flip side is that all of the auto are just flat out expensive. The new cars/trucks have MPG not much better than my F350 7.3 diesel and they must be made from gold or something to justify these prices.

They cars have all of these doodads that increase complexity and cost, both short term and long term, which really does not encourage me to buy a new vehicle.

Later,
Dan

I've been scanning the vehicle ad section in the papers occasionally. Hven't seen what I would call a 'work' truck in a couple years. Haven't seen a standard cab in near forever. My 89 is failing one item at a time, AC died years ago, now the cruise control is going wacko, some days it works, others it 'pulses', gives a shot of fuel, shot of fuel, shot of fuel, and somtimes speeds up with each 'pulse'. Basically unuseable most of the time.

Body is a wreck but that coems from beating it up hauling wood. Engine, tranny, driveline mechanically sound alothoug I did have to replace the clutch last year. Dunno if that old reliable truck is going to last me or not, 84 now but no health problems....knock wood.

Last I checked to buy a new truck that has the same capacity as my 2003 2500HD Silverado work truck 4x4 I would pay 45,000. In 2003 I payed 25,000. Little bit of inflation there.

Back in 2007 I told my car broker I wanted a new Ford half ton pickup for work.

Plain -Jane fine. On the short list of MUST haves were: AC, automatic and STANDARD cab. Everything else didn't really matter.

There was only ONE regular cab in all of British Columbia!

Did you check the vacuum line for the cruise control? Also I think JC Whitney or similar used to sell add-on cruise control kits for not very much money, might be able to replace the controller with one of those.

I like the concept, but didn't see anything on how far it can go on a charge, or how long it takes to charge it up? And while I don't have any interest in actually wanting one, I like seeing new ideas come out and then turn into better ideas. I was against cell phones when they first started becoming popular, and I though the internet was a waste of time. :)

I think that's a good summary. I can't see this truck selling well. It's way too much money for a bare bones truck. A few people will like it for the novelty of an electric truck. If it gets better and cheaper over time, then it could be a big deal.

The internet IS a waste of time, though.
