New TYM - Turbo or not?

Hi -

Trying to decide between the TYM T494 or T574 (shuttle shift). As far as I can tell, the ONLY difference is the engine. Both have the same Kukje basic engine. The T574 has a turbo which increases engine HP from 47 to 55.

No other differences. Should be easy right?

The price difference is only around $1000 or so.

I am aware that certain people have negative opinions of turbos. But is that really based on facts or is it a little bit of a myth?

What are your thoughts?

I have no problems with a factory installed turbo. They were on most of the construction equipment I worked around and on plus all the trucks. Never replaced a single one.

I'll say that turbo engines want to be worked not lugged so if your work is low engine speed based then of course the answer is no, don't do it.

I have no problems with turbos,
when worked hard they do need a couple of minutes cooling down time before shutting down.
But I do that to all my engines, gas or diesel, turboed or not.

I have no problems with a factory installed turbo.
Remember, this is a low pressure turbo resulting in only a 15% boost. Low pressure turbos tend to stay reliable over the life of the engine and incur very limited mechanical risk. These low pressure turbos are not in the same class as high pressure turbos typically found in high performance engines, and showing a 30% to 40% boost. I think you will be just fine if you choose a turbo model. Just let it idle for a few minutes before shut down.

I currently own an Isuzu diesel SUV overseas for 15 years and it has a low pressure turbo. Not a single issue in those 15 years of ownership so far.
