New type of knee surgery!!

/ New type of knee surgery!! #71
I am planning for a right hip replacement in May and following that a left knee ASAP, hopefully in August. My knee was hurt playing football in the 70's and deteriorated to the point that the right hip is now bone on bone. Not looking forward to it but I have an excellent surgeon. I go tomorrow for consultation. Just want to get it over with.
Not sure if you are a candiate or not, if so, consider hip resurfacing, the most experienced surgeon in the US is Dr Gross in your neck of the woods, in SC, last I knew he had done nealy 4000 of them. Conserves bone, allows one to return to an active lifestyle, and you will not have the restrictions that total hip patients have. I could not be more satisfied with both of mine, I got my life back and walk @25 miles per week.

Thanks for all the updates. Knee replacements seem to run a lot on my Dad's (including Dad)side of the family. Dad's brother and sister have had replacements, and also a cousin. I have had my right knee scoped twice to cleaned tears up. So one day I figure I will need more "maintenance" down there.
hugs, Brandi

My knee problems started in the early nineties when I had to have torn cartilage removed. Don't know how I tore it but my leg suddenly went numb from knee down. Doctor did standard procedure for the day and twenty years later I'm paying the price.
