I debated long and hard about purchasing a chipper. I weighed the options of burning or renting a unit to get rid of my brush but decided buying used was the best route for me. I just don't have the time to rent a chipper. By the time I got it on a typical Saturday morning, delivering it to my sight would kill half a day. Then, bringing it back Monday would mean taking time off from work. Buying new was just not cost effective also so I decided to buy used.
Here's my new toy. Trust me it looks and works like brand new and I got it for half price. If your thinking about a chipper do yourself a favor and put an add in the paper. It really works!

Nice! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifEven the paint matches!

Care to share the "whole" or "half" price you paid?

I was quoted $3100 for a new chipper. With tax I'd be looking at $3300. I bought this one for $1800. Well, ALMOST half price.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. If you don't mind me asking where did you get it. Was it Snell equipment? Hope you get lots of use from it and maybe after you have some time on it you might want to let us know how it is going.
Good Luck

Chipperman,
No, I put an add in the paper "Wanted PTO Wood Chipper" for one week. My fist call was from a guy looking for one himself and wanted to know what results I had. My second call was for a Chinese brand Chipper that worked but was pretty beat. He wanted $900 for it. I received a call from a dealer who didn't have a used one but was willing to sell a brand new Valby CH140 for $2700. I seriously considered that but wanted to keep my cost down so I went with the Bearcat. I kept in communication with the guy who was also looking for one. He found a practically brand new Bearcat like mine but it had a 12 HP engine with it. Both of us did not want a self-powered unit.
That's about it. Adds do work if a person is in the market for used.
