Geeze, I 've got to be younger than I think /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I didn't think the prices for the Kubota were too bad. I recall a new Diesel Gator or Mule is in that price range, so is a Polaris Ranger. Of course the prices quoted are suggested retail. I doubt there will be much off until they've been out a while. Doesn't seem that long ago when the new style '80 Bronco's came out with pricing around $10k. I thought that would be their demise as "nobody would spend that much for a Bronco" HA!!

What I think is ridiculous in price is new diesel trucks. Over 40k and injectors that go bad after warranty and cost 5k to repair. I have never had to even touch an injector on any of the Kubotas I have owned. I think for what you are getting the Kubota RTV 900 is not too bad. As Bird said, I would rather give 10k for an RTV than a boat I could only use around 4-6 months a year. The boat won't haul my deer. mow ditch banks, haul tools and dirt, well you get the idea.

I bought a Gator a few months ago as a 4 wheeler replacement. My wife thought we should get a new 4 wheeler and I wanted something that could work more than an ATV. The Gator is great. It will climb hills, haul so much, the bed has a power dump. The stuff you can do with these little utility vehicles are only limited by your imagination.

( The Big Country from MTD eat's the deere for breakfast in quality and features. It will take deere three to four years to attempt to copy this one if they can! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Do you need glasses? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

I agree with Art. I looked at the Gators before purchasing my Big County. My dealer who sells New Holland, Kubota and Cub Cadet has a couple of mechanics who used to work for a Deere dealer. they told me that the quality of the cub is vastly superior to the Gator. I also hear that a new line of Gators is due out and that they are not made by Deere. I will be looking at the new Kubota as soon as they are in. In the mean time I love my Big Country. 20hp Honda V twin and 1400# load capacity.

Bird,
Have you seen the Bobcat "Toolcat" about $32,000,it is an awesome machine with an awesome price. It reminds me of a Gator or but a lot different features. But it is for the serious contractor.

The price of the Kubota is less then the Diesel Mule starting out but the price goes up according to options. There are some nice used Gators sitting out of my window starting with about 60 hours of use.

Is there a retro fit for a small used jeep cj or something similar?

It would seem to me that it would have at least similar load capacity with a possible lower price tag.

Any thoughts?

( compared to comparable machines, such as a diesel Kawasaki Mule, it doesn't seem to be out of line. )

I agree with you, Bird. I just ordered a Mule 3010 4WD (gasoline) for my girlfriend's Christmas present (hope she doesn't read this /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) and with a windshield and hydraulic dump on the bed, it's about $9,500. I just wonder why Kubota isn't going to offer a gasoline version? Maybe it's because they don't build a gasoline engine. I'm sure the RTV 900 is a great machine, but I needed the UV now. I can get the Mule in Christmas Red, so that was my choice. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
