What are the odds they will find it? I don't see to many Vermeer balers here so if a new one shows up I will look into it.

I wish you the best and hopefully the thief will be punished greatly as I can't stand thieves.

The world is becoming a rotten place! We have a terrible drug problem here and they've been stealing copper from churches and anywhere else they can. I'll mention it to Wes at Valley, tell him to keep an eye out for you.

Agreed, rotten SOBs.....

Don't know how much it'll help, but I'll be mindful of #4697......

Well, I sure hope you get a chance to catch up with them fellas!
But I can't quite understand what anyone might hope to do with a brand new, shiny baler? Strip it and sell the parts...? What would the neighbors think when it showed up out in the field? What would you say to any dealer when they asked for the serial number if you needed parts? (I'm way too slow on the uptake to be any kind of a thief!)
And I sure didn't catch on to the copper pipe thing, either... Who steals copper pipe? Please enlighten an ol' fud dud. AKfish

Here's an article on copper thefts from USA Today. Link

There was also an article in our local paper recently about thefts of the copper and bronze veterans' grave markers being stolen. That's about as low as one can go.

Back to the hay baler... I'm going to assume someone stole it to sell for a quick buck... maybe on Ebay? I wouldn't think someone would steal it for their own use.

Yes, the vagrants in our downtown area are hitting AC systems and vacant buildings - stripping coils, wiring, etc - then selling to a middleman who then takes it to recycling company - need to start nailing these folks trafficking stolen merchandise.

Also, back to the stolen piece of eqmt. A friend told me he can no longer buy parts for his bobcats unless he provides proof of ownership - that may be where we are headed with equipment. Of course, I am sure there will be work arounds on that as well.

Maybe a National registry of stolen eqmt?

Probably the hardest thing most of us could ever do is try to think like a criminal. For one thing, most criminals DON'T THINK. Or at least they don't think things through start to finish. If they did, they'd leave other peoples property alone.

It's possible the baler might go up for sale on some website or classified adds. It's possible it might get used. And it's entirely possible someone stole it for a thrill. Several years back, I had a hay wagon stolen. We found it 3 days later without the 4 wheels and tires. Maybe someone took the baler for one part.

All the possibilities.

Being around construction equipment through work, we've been warned numerous times about people who steel this sort of equipment, and with a phonecall, have someone outside the area to get it and sell it. We've had 2 back hoes stolen in the last 2 years. They ended up surfacing in New York (state).

I have 2 simple rules about dealing with any thief caught on my land. ONE, don't be shocked at what they try to steel. TWO, steady aim while pulling the trigger.

Not to get away from the stolen baler, but I too am amazed at the lengths that some people will go to "Make the quick buck" when if they applied the same energy to legal pursuits they'd have been further ahead.

Farmwithjunk's comment about steady aim might sound a little harsh to some, but a recent local incident involving the theft of a service truck and welding trailer ended with Sherriff's Deputies and private citizens firing at the fleeing vehicle killing both perps before the incident was over.

I'm in the market for a new baler here in W Tn. If a "good deal" shows up on a like new rebel I'll be sure to check the serial # for you.
